For most, yesterday's weather was the perfect excuse to stay home. Not so for a Bakers Dozen of Trilatinos and the Trilatino Juniors who volunteered as part of Bike New York annual Five Boro Bike Tour.
Say Congrats to 6 who not only served as course marshals along the route through Harlem and over the Madison Avenue Bridge. After the last of 32,000 riders passed, the half dozen Trilatino Adults, Juniors, and Fathers pedaled all the way to the Finish Line in Staten Island.
Tip your hat to the remaining 7 TriLatinos who along side the riding TLer's, were out in these streets supporting participants by alerting them to specific road conditions, assisting with crowd control and road emergencies, encouraging slow riders, and providing information to participants, spectators, and nearby residents.
The is only as great as the experience the riders have. As those approached and rode through the Bronx, the enthusiasm and friendly treatment TriLatino gave them made it a 5 star moment.
All of our volunteers deserved medals for how they stepped up yesterday. The 6 who rode to the end through wind and rain are Medal Monday rock stars!
Happy ! From finishing their first half to run anniversaries, our athletes share some of their running experiences from this weekend’s races.
What a ! Kudos to our athletes who conquered across the pond.
Monica shares her own race day experience:
Why this race? 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
London is an iconic city and so is its marathon. Since I started running in 2011, I had dreamt of being able to partake on this race. I was lucky to get a ballot place via lottery for 2020, but due to some personal circumstances and the pandemic, I wasn’t able to do the race until this year.
What was your mindset heading into Sunday? 🧠
I went into the race with the goal of getting to the finish line while enjoying the experience. I hadn’t trained as well as I’d have liked to, and I’m not as fit as I was in 2019, so I knew not to push for an unrealistic goal. I know how incredibly fortunate I am for having had such a great opportunity, so I just wanted to take it all in (and get that medal at the end 😉)
Best part? 🎉🥂🫶🏽
My favorite part was having the opportunity to see London in a very unique way. From the start at Blackheath, with its Georgian homes and village feel, to getting an up-close view of the Cutty Sark, running through Tower Bridge, passing Parliament, and the Buckingham Palace to then go for a spectacular finish at the Mall! It was one wow moment after another. The whole experience was fantastic!
Why should someone pursue a marathon? 🏆✨👊🏽
Bragging rights 😁. Seriously, the marathon is a very respectable challenge, not only physically, but also mentally. For me, training and running a marathon has been confirmation of how the right mindset allows our body to show us how powerful it is. That’s an invaluable lesson.
