報告が遅いんですが、この春はたくさんニューヨークの小学校の子供達に紙芝居ワークショップをお届けしました！

直接学校にいったり、学校がJapan Societyに遠足で来てくれたりするのですが、毎回とても多様な背景を持つニューヨークの小学生が一生懸命に日本のお話を聞いてくれたり、自分が日本について知っていることを私に聞かせてくれたり、とても元気をもらいます💚🩵💜

このプログラムをリクエストしてくれるクラスの大多数は日本をを学んでいる学生ではないのです。学校のカリキュラムで日本を取り上げてくれていたり、色んな国の演劇について学んでいて日本についても知りたい、とかいろんなケースがあります。

日本の食べ物やアニメが大好きな子供達が多く、こちらがびっくりするほどです。さすがニューヨーク、なんですが、日本について知りたい、というのはとてもありがたいことだと思っています。それは決して当たり前のことではありませんから。毎回感謝の気持ちを持って日本の素敵なところをシェアしながら、異文化にふれる楽しさをみんなが感じてくれたらと思って、活動をしています❤️

Last spring, I had the opportunity to do quite a lot of Kamishibai workshops in New York City. I visited public schools around the city in some cases, and others were held at the Japan Society. I get to meet such diverse groups of kids of different ages in elementary school.
I am so thankful they are curious and willing to hear more about Japan!

Through Kamishibai workshops, I feel like I play a small part in the little kids life, where they can open a window to look out and imagine what the world outside the place they live might be like.

We all get to do this through experiences of certain culture’s cuisine, stories, movies, arts, sports and many other ways. I believe these little trips we take with our senses and imagination is so important for understanding the interconnected world 🌎

It’s a privilege that I get to tell stories from Japan and spend time with these childern ❤️
