The 2026 Dorothy Carter Writer-in-Residency is officially underway!
We were thrilled to welcome the legendary Dan Gutman to the School for Children this week. With over 190 books and 35 million copies sold, Dan is a true powerhouse in children’s literature. Our 9/10 students had an incredible time at the kick-off event!
Parents, the Bank Street Library has a collection of Dan’s books waiting for young readers! From his New York Times bestsellers to hidden gems, there is plenty to explore on the shelves. 📚
Stay tuned for more updates from this year’s residency!

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Rudy Jordan, former Head of School (1998–2008) and a beloved leader in the Bank Street community. Rudy’s vision, wisdom, and deep care for others shaped the progressive teaching practices and inclusive culture that define our school today. From strengthening financial aid to championing equity and establishing affinity groups, Rudy’s impact lives on in the values we hold and the work we continue to do. He will be remembered as a leader, mentor, and friend whose legacy inspires us all.
For those who would like to share memories, please don’t hesitate to post on the Remembering Rudy Jordan message board.
