Sarah and I would like to congratulate Educator and Theatre Director Madeline Michel from Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Virginia on her Tony Award 2019 Excellence in Theatre Education Award. A stop in at Teachers College Columbia University followed by a forum at the New York Department of Education discussing the city’s strategies for improved attendance and engagement. The department is embarking on a campaign to combat chronic absenteeism, “Every Student, Every Day: Cracking the Code on Chronic Absenteeism.” This campaign brings to light facts such as students that miss 10% of school will have missed a year of instructions by the end of High School.
