A special thank you to the elected officials who joined us for Rosh Hashanah Package Delivery.

From delivering packages to thanking volunteers, Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, State Senator Erik Bottcher, Council Member Virginia Maloney, and Council Member Gale Brewer helped make this year's program even more meaningful.

We are so grateful for our volunteers who came out on a weekday to spend time making an older adult's day!

Thanks to you, we were able to delivery hundreds of Rosh Hashanah packages to our older neighbors and connect with them for friendly visits, both in person and over the phone.

September is Hunger Action Month. 🧡

DOROT's Kosher Meals at Home program provides older adults in Manhattan with weekly deliveries of nutritious kosher meals, regardless of their ability to pay, helping ensure reliable access to healthy meals.

According to our 2026 survey, thanks to Kosher Meals at Home, the percentage of participants who reported always having enough food nearly doubled, rising from 44.6% before enrollment to 85.7% after joining the program.

It's also a source of regular social connection.

This Hunger Action Month, join us in raising awareness of food insecurity among older adults and the importance of reliable access to nutritious food.

If you feel the world is more divided than ever, you're not alone. For more than 50 years, social trust in the United States has been in decline. Now there’s a movement to rebuild our social fabric, and we invite you to learn more about it.

Join us for Social Fabric: Weaving Stronger Communities, an online series about building stronger, more connected communities, presented by DOROT and Weave: The Social Fabric Project at the Aspen Institute.

Over four consecutive Wednesdays in September, you’ll meet some of the leaders striving to bring our communities back together, along with individual “weavers,” ordinary people finding ways to strengthen the social fabric in extraordinary ways.

Leave inspired and with ideas for cultivating community around what we share.

“He let me into his world for a spell. I didn’t know I needed that.”

Michael, our Manager of Digital Content and Storytelling, was less than a month into the job when he delivered a purple bag of goodies uptown to Neal’s apartment. They drank iced decaf, shared life experiences, talked about art, and cracked jokes.

That's Package Delivery: pick up a bag, deliver it to an older adult, and stay for a visit or follow up with a friendly phone call.

It's so easy to make someone's day, including your own.

Social connection is more than a nice-to-have. It's essential to our health, well-being, and sense of belonging.

Yet 1 in 3 older adults experiences loneliness and isolation.

Through one-on-one relationships, peer support, intergenerational programs, and practical assistance, DOROT helps older adults build meaningful connections and community.

This High Holiday season, we're working to raise $50,000 to expand that impact. And thanks to a generous $25,000 match, every gift will be doubled.

Class was in session as William Hindin presented the Great Jewish American Songbook to a full house at DOROT.
 
Through piano, song, and storytelling, Bill explored the history of George and Ira Gershwin and the Jewish musical traditions that helped shape some of the most enduring popular music of the 20th century.
 
These are just a few moments from his wonderful program. Thank you, Bill!
