La Dolce Diva Voicestudio

La Dolce Diva Voicestudio Voice lessons in midtown NYC and Edison, NJ. 20+ years teaching. Classical/pop/MT. All voice types. My name is Celia Castro. My website is voice.ladolcediva.com.

I’m an opera singer and a voice teacher. I teach in central NJ in Edison. I also teach in midtown NYC as well as over Skype. I teach all levels and genres and I enjoying watching people unlock their vocal potential and gain more ease and joy in their singing. I have been doing it for over 15 years and I find it to be rewarding and joyful work. I want my students to go out and sing their best and freest. I believe in keeping a spirit of collaboration in my studio so you always feel you are being heard and that we are working together to make the best singer YOU can be. I am also a member of the National Association for Teachers of Singing so I am constantly refreshing my ideas on voice training and learning more and more regularly about vocal pedagogy. It is a process I enjoy sharing with my students. We are always evolving. Feel free to contact me either by email at [email protected] or by phone at 212-417-0074. Or leave me a shout out here on Facebook!

Choosing who to work with is an individual preference as much as it is a professional or avocational one. I am a very "soft sell" kind of person. I let each person come and see for themselves if I am the right teacher for them. So, if you're thinking of starting lessons or are considering a change, come for a 1/2 hour consultation with me to discover what I may be able to do for you.

You want to work with someone who has your best interest at heart and wants to see you achieve your goals. But more than that, you have to feel you're in a safe space where you can flourish and feel supported, while receiving technical advice from an experienced vocal professional.

Lessons online, in NYC and in Central NJ.

One-time FREE consultationI offer a free 30-minute free online consultation to give you a chance to get to know my teaching style. You can use it as a mini-lesson or to ask me questions.

Hiya all! I just saw this on another page and need to share it. What a fascinating little learning tool! It helps give a very (very) basic understanding of the vocal tract and vowel formation. I am fairly certain there are better models out there. There is a sophisticated program called Voce Vista, for instance. But I don’t think it provides this kind of visual representation of the parts of the anatomy.
Anyway… sharing because it could be fun and even somewhat useful at a rudimentary level. If you try it, let me know what you think. I tried singing but I don’t think it’s that advanced.

I have struggled with posting more of what I teach on social media, in part, because I see how much truly brilliant content is already being shared by so many professionals whom I respect, but also, in large part, because I feel responsible for the people I work with. And while online singing advice can often be helpful, sometimes it can be harmful if not properly applied.

I have amassed my own body of knowledge from years of working with a vast array of people like David Jones, Sharon Sweet, Bill Riley, Ira Siff, the late Randolph Michelson who worked with Joan Sutherland back in the day, Dr. Bradley Williard for breath and body work, and currently, my brilliant teacher, Susan Eichhorn Young, who has opened up a whole new level for me! Then there were my classes at Mannes, my Masters in Music Education from Columbia, Music and Psychology studies at Rutgers, and a general ongoing inquisitiveness. I am always learning more, asking questions, diving deeper.

But I have tended to not shared very much online because in my studio, as well as in my own singing experiences, I have learned that even the best vocal advice can be misconstrued or misapplied. The very same exercise, or approach, can be great for singer A and absolutely disastrous for singer B. And this is where a discerning teacher can guide a singer towards the right path. When studying with someone, you need to work with someone willing to say, “This exercise I gave you last week… I think your voice needs something a little different. Let’s do this instead.” I am constantly listening to be sure the voice is responding well to our work. And if something isn’t working or you tell me it doesn’t feel great, I find a different way to work on the same issue, or an adjacent skill which will help build your voice and confidence.

Please seek out teachers who are flexible and willing to change with your needs. And remember… Sing for joy! 🎶😊🎶💕

What a treat last night! All the performers and composers presented really strong pieces. Really special ! My favorite team didn’t win, but what a lovely song they birthed into the world! .cookie Carson Cook gave such a beautiful, nuanced performance. I felt such pride! The composer and pianist, Christopher Cooley, played the soulful accompaniment with the needed delicateness. Really lovely. 🎶🎶💗💗🎶🎶 Congrats to all the teams, but special congrats to Carson! 💕🎶

I started to make this video more complicated than it needed to be then decided to keep it simple. So often I find we add a lot of science terminology to our explanations, which can be good. Informative. But sometimes singers just need something they can DO that is relatable. Something to help them explore their instruments.

I like to teach in a way that gets the singer in touch with their instrument and their specific coordination. So this video is a simple directive for anyone who feels like they don’t have a good grasp on their lower voice. A way to explore and relearn what those sensations are in that part of the voice. Do share your thoughts!
