From adopted child to department chair, Professor Matt Miller’s journey is one of wonder, resilience, and deep intellectual curiosity. His story—rooted in literature, spirituality, and a reverence for learning—reminds us of the power of living fully in the present and seeking meaning in every corner of creation. Grateful to have such a thoughtful leader shaping the minds (and hearts) of the Stern community. 📚✨ Read the full article here: https://yucommentator.org/2025/05/torah-umadda-quantum-physics-and-poetry-getting-to-know-professor-matt-miller/

🎤 Dear Writers, Readers, and Creatives!!Maccabee Review Open Mic Night 🌟

🚐 5:45PM shuttle from Beren to the Wilf Writing Center (Furst 202) which will be open for folks to hang out before the start of the open mic.

This semester’s event features The Maccabee Review, YU’s student-led literary journal, with readings from the editorial team and published writers. Come celebrate the creative voices of our community at this co-ed event, with readings by writers from both the Beren and Wilf campuses.

You’re also invited to share your own work—poetry, short fiction, personal essays, or even scenes from a screenplay. No sign-up required—just show up and read!

This is a great chance to perform, listen, and connect with fellow creatives in a warm, supportive space.

📚 Attention left-and-right-brained folks! 🧠✨ Research shows that reading fiction activates the same brain regions as real social experiences, building literacy and empathy 🤯
“If we dismiss fiction as unimportant, we fail to recognize one of humanity’s most powerful tools for learning and connection. Stories are not just diversions; they are blueprints for understanding ourselves and each other.”
What are some of your favorite fiction works you’re reading this semester? Feel free to drop a recommendation below. Article link here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/parenting-from-a-neuroscience-perspective/202503/the-science-of-storytelling-how-fiction
