The ability to raise the arms directly overhead and instead using poor movement patterns to achieve the action such as dropping the head or rounding the shoulders to excessively arching the lower back, can lead to injury when performing strength exercises like overhead presses and kettlebell snatches.
In my new blog series "Yoga for Better Athletic Performance", I will offer a few ideas using yoga postures to help improve mobility in this area. This is yoga for athletes, not athletic yoga; there is a difference. If your workout facility offers the Functional Patterns Functional Movement Screen, it's a great too to assess whole body mobility and limitations.
