Through collaborations with universities, non-governmental organizations(NGOs), and corporations, as well as the application of our programs designed to target key areas that would lead towards the advancement of our purpose, we strive to rise up to the challenge bestowed upon us by our founders. Established in 2004 by the John D. MacArthur Foundation, we have made it our mission to enhance the ability of Nigerian universities to help address and solve Nigeria’s most pressing social problems, to enable economic development, and to promote a lasting and stable democracy. With our devoted board comprised of Nigerian-Americans and American nationals with careers in the Academic, Business, Fundraising, Legal, and Medical Industries, and with the help of our generous donors, we continue to promote peace, security, growth, and prosperity within the Nigerian community through the improvement of higher education.

Day 1 at the inaugural National University Advancement Programme (NUAP) Forum.

University leaders from across Nigeria came together to explore how stronger advancement practices can support more sustainable and resilient universities.

A key highlight was the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Maruf Alausa, directing federal universities to place advancement offices under the direct oversight of Vice-Chancellors, alongside his announcement of support for NHEF’s advancement technology platform.

NHEF Chairman, Mr. Walé Adeosun, CFA, highlighted the importance of alumni engagement as a significant opportunity for universities to strengthen institutional support and reduce reliance on government funding.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, addressed the NHEF National Advancement Forum 2026, highlighting the importance of stronger institutions, sustainable development, and effective advancement systems in shaping the future of higher education in Nigeria. In Loving Memory of Mr. Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun (“Mr. Niyi”)

The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) mourns the passing of Mr. Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun (“Mr. Niyi”), a cherished member of the Adeosun family and a valued friend of the NHEF community.

Mr. Niyi was known for his warmth, graciousness, and unwavering support for NHEF’s mission to advance higher education and develop future leaders in Nigeria. Just weeks ago, we were honored to welcome him to the closing ceremony of the 2026 NHEF Programs, where his presence reflected the steadfast support that he and the Adeosun family have so generously extended to the Foundation over the years.

As the beloved brother of our Chairman, Mr. Walé Adeosun, Mr. Niyi’s passing is deeply felt across the entire NHEF community. We are profoundly grateful for the encouragement and goodwill he consistently showed toward our mission and the lives of the young people we serve.

On behalf of the NHEF Board, staff, alumni, scholars, and the wider NHEF community, we extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Walé Adeosun, the entire Adeosun family, and all who knew and loved Mr. Niyi. We wish the family strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time, and hope that the cherished memories of Mr. Niyi’s life will be a lasting source of comfort.

May his memory continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.
