One of the nine specialized high schools in New York City and the only one dedicated to arts education. LaGuardia was originally two separate schools -- the highly regarded Music and Art High School and the High School for the Performing Arts (the "Fame!" school). The two schools were combined in 1984 in their new home next door to Lincoln Center and renamed the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and the Performing Arts in honor of Mayor LaGuardia -- whose creation was his idea.
