As we enter July, CCSD proudly recognizes Disability Pride Month—a time to uplift the voices, history, and accomplishments of people with disabilities, while reaffirming our commitment to equity and inclusion.
This year is especially significant as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—signed into law in July 1990. This landmark legislation broke down barriers by prohibiting discrimination and ensuring access to jobs, education, public spaces, and more for millions of Americans with disabilities.
💬 As disability rights advocate Stella Young once said:
“Disability doesn’t make you exceptional, but questioning what you think you know about it does.”
This month is both a celebration and a call to action—a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much further we must go to achieve full inclusion.
Throughout July, we invite our students, families, and staff to engage in events, education, and conversations that celebrate disability pride, visibility, and justice.
Let’s continue building a CCSD community where everyone is welcomed, included, and empowered to thrive. 💙♿

Today, the CUNY Coalition for Students with Disabilities (CCSD) joins in commemorating Juneteenth, a powerful day in American history that marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation—enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom.
Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and Black excellence—and a reminder of the continued work needed to ensure equity and justice for all. As a coalition advocating for students with disabilities, we recognize the intersections of race, disability, and systemic injustice. We stand in solidarity with the Black community in honoring this day of reflection, remembrance, and hope.
Let us continue to lift every voice and ensure that the rights and stories of all people are heard and celebrated. ✊🏿🖤💛❤️💚
