Reading Team, Inc. We are a data informed, metrics driven, phonics based organization serving children in Harlem and the South Bronx from Pre-K through 5th grade.

The Reading Team instructional model is concentrated on literacy, attentive to the whole child, responsive to each child’s unique learning styles, and portable so that children, parents, and teachers can transfer and apply what they
learn here to other environments. The model features a unique combination of literacy building blocks (shown in bold typeface below) whose multi-dimensional approach tackles all the individual, social, and environmental obstacles
to literacy proficiency and academic achievement.

This weekend's New York Post cover: less than half of NYC elementary school kids can pass the state reading test.
We don't find that surprising. We find it urgent.
Our newest newsletter is out, marking 25 years of the Reading Team's work in Harlem and the South Bronx. Last year, our students passed that same exam at 71%, a 27-point gap between our kids and their peers. That's the difference between an F and an A-minus.

Yesterday we visited our site with one of our longtime supporters, the Foundation, to see the work up close.

What makes this partnership special is our strong collaboration with school leader Dr. Dickerson and his team. From phonics-based instruction that complements the school day to small-group reading that builds fluency and stamina, this is what it takes to move the needle and help students become confident readers.
