Kids logic at its finest! If you have ever wondered why asking kids about school gets a one-word answer, but asking about gaming gear turns into a full presentation, you are not alone. Whether you are dealing with young children, tweens, or teenagers, getting more than a "Fine" about their day feels nearly impossible.

I asked him, "How was school?" "Fine." One word, case closed.
Asked him about the science fair? "Fine."
Asked him about homework? "Fine."

Ask him about the gaming headset he wants, now suddenly it's a TED Talk. Three models, mic quality, a full breakdown unprompted. This is four minutes and a Q&A. "Fine" was one word. He remembers the release date. He knows the price to the penny. He's already geo-mapped the nearest store.

How will you pay for college? "Fine."
When will you move out of my house? "Fine."
How much is the headset? "Oh, here's the checkout barcode."

Turns out my son isn't quiet. He's fluent in exactly one language: spending my money. 💸

Her job title was Classroom Leader. She was a teenager.

The younger student beside her learned compound interest — not because she knew more than his teacher, but because he recognized her.

This is the part of our approach that is overlooked, and I understand why. Adult-led instruction appears more rigorous on paper.

A great teacher can explain compound interest. A peer makes a child believe it applies to him.

Not an adult replacement — reinforcement.

No school has teenagers on its teaching staff. So we recorded them.

This photo is from 2015. She was trained through our youth financial education institute. She is an educator now — it became her profession.

I don't know whether the younger student is thriving today. I wish I did. That is the honest part of leading an immersive youth financial education institute for decades.

Peer teaching doesn't only reach the younger student. It builds the older one.

If you lead financial education in a school or district — how do you handle Pre-K through middle school? Genuinely asking. Almost nothing exists down there.
