Meet @snowliu, a Global Liberal Studies student who studied away at NYU Florence and NYU Shanghai — two completely different cities that taught her just how much growth happens when you lean into change.
In Shanghai, she reconnected with her culture, stepped out of her comfort zone, and found joy in unexpected places. Her advice? “Be confident and stay open-minded. It might feel scary at first, but it’ll be one of the best things you ever do.”
In Florence, she enjoyed the slower pace of life, exploring the city (and the tiramisu) one day at a time. Her advice? “Don’t feel pressure to do it all. Focus on what you want to do — quality over quantity.”
📍 Fall 2025 Study Away applications are still open — why choose just one city when you can do both? Link in bio.

Nursing at NYU Shanghai 🩺✨
Meet @nicolerchen, a Nursing student who studied away at NYU Shanghai.
“Studying away may seem scary initially, but so many resources are in place to ensure you feel safe and comfortable. Immerse yourself in the culture, step out of your comfort zone, and embrace new experiences with an open heart.”
Pro tip: “China’s travel is super convenient — I used Xiaohongshu for weekend trip ideas and it made exploring so easy!”

We reached out to some of our study away students to find out their favorite third spaces abroad. ✨
What are your favorite third spaces you discovered while travelling?😇🌍
💜 Meet Chloe, ( ) a second-year Sports Management student at NYU who had the incredible opportunity to visit NYU Tulsa during Spring Break through the SPS Dean’s Global Leadership Development Program, an initiative focused on social justice and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We asked her what her thoughts were on her time @nyuTulsa.
💭 "What surprised you the most about Tulsa?"
“The sheer amount of change and rich history embedded in the town. Tulsa has seen both tragedy and transformation, and what stood out to me was how open the community is in sharing that history with newcomers. I think other students would be surprised by how welcoming the city is—and how affordable it is to explore. It really has the feel of a college town. Once you’re there for a bit, you start recognizing faces and finding your rhythm.”
🌟 "What did you enjoy most about your time in Tulsa?"
“I loved visiting the Philbrook Museum—not just for the art, but for the beautiful gardens that surround it. It felt like a peaceful escape, something I don’t often find in NYC. And The Gathering Place? Unreal. The care and detail that went into that park are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Tulsa gave me space to breathe, reflect, and connect—with the city, with others, and with myself.”
✨ Through the Dean’s Program, Chloe explored how leadership, empathy, and difficult conversations can fuel social change. And her time in Tulsa? A powerful reminder that healing, reflection, and community go hand-in-hand. 💜
💜
Meet Sydney, who spent her semester studying away and made the most of every weekend, exploring new cities, meeting new people, and building friendships that stuck.
“Every weekend, I was somewhere new, whether discovering more of my site or hopping to another country. I met people from all walks of life, and now I have friends across the globe.”
Her advice
“Just apply. If you’re unsure, there are so many resources and ambassadors (like me!) ready to help. The first step is taking the leap.”
Favorite memory
Climbing to the top of Fourvière in Lyon and watching the sunset with friends. “It was a long trek, but the view made it all worth it.”
