Climate shocks. Conflict. Water scarcity. Economic instability.

Yesterday at the High-Level Political Forum, UNICEF launched the Global WASH Sector Resilience Index (GWSRI).

Around the world, these pressures are placing growing strain on water, sanitation and hygiene systems—often with children paying the highest price.
The new Global WASH Sector Resilience Index (GWSRI) is the first global tool specifically designed to measure the resilience of WASH systems. It helps governments and partners understand where resilience is strongest, where it is weakest, and where investments are needed most.
The launch marks an important shift in the sector:
From responding to crises to preventing their impacts
From measuring access alone to understanding resilience
From fragmented risk management to risk-informed investment and planning
The GWSRI benchmarks resilience across 151 countries and provides an evidence base to guide policy, financing and action.
Because resilient WASH systems are not only about infrastructure. They are about protecting children, sustaining services, strengthening economies, and securing development gains in an increasingly uncertain world.

🩸A global movement is building to move menstrual health from the margins to the mainstream.

Across regions and sectors, governments, UN agencies, civil society, youth advocates and partners are coming together around a new Shared Agenda for Action on Menstrual Health.

Why? Because menstrual health is not only about hygiene products. It is deeply connected to education, health, WASH, gender equality, economic participation, climate resilience and human dignity. Yet despite progress, over 500 million women and girls still face unmet menstrual health needs worldwide.

The Shared Agenda aims to:
🔹 Increase political prioritization and investment
🔹 Strengthen accountability and evidence
🔹 Break stigma and harmful social norms
🔹 Elevate adolescent and youth voices
🔹 Build stronger cross-sector collaboration

This is a collective effort — and consultations are now underway across regions. We invite governments, practitioners, youth leaders, researchers, civil society and partners to help shape the agenda and drive meaningful action.

Menstrual health is not a side issue. It is a development priority.

🌍🩸 The global consultation for the Shared Agenda for Action on Menstrual Health and Hygiene is now open. This Shared Agenda has been developed by UNICEF, the Global Menstrual Collective, and partners from 50+ countries. It aims to guide evidence informed global action on menstrual health in th...
