From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to our dear friends of ARS who have given us so much this year. If you have yet to give to ARS, we encourage you to do so before the end of the calendar year, which is also the charitable donation deadline. Your gift would provide tuition assistance to over two-thirds of our current students, support for our outstanding faculty and staff, and maintenance of our facilities, including technology. Please follow the link in our profile to donate today!

Earlier this month, our entire student community came together to make cards and sandwiches for donation to the NY Common Pantry. The NY Common Pantry has multiple programs that aim to reduce hunger and promote dignity, health, and self-sufficiency. A group of student volunteers accompanied Ms. Shapiro, Mr. Shaurette, and Ms. Goodman to deliver the cards and sandwiches, and we were grateful to have a tour of the facilities to see first hand just how big an impact they continue to make in the community. We hope that our donations helped those experiencing food insecurity this holiday season, and that our cards brought a little joy to someone’s life. ❤️

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at ARS! Wishing you a healthy and restful holiday with your family, friends, and loved ones. Please enjoy these pictures from the “ARS Thanksgiving Parade” made by our Kindergarten and First Grade students with the help of our Science teacher, Ms. Yi. Yesterday, students from George Jackson Academy joined our 5th grade in delivering to Advent Lutheran Church all of the canned and non-perishable food our school community donated during the month of November. After making the delivery, the ARS and GJA students then discussed a book they both read, Under the Egg, and had a pizza party. Thanks so much to the students and teachers from GJA who joined us yesterday in giving back to the community!

Our sincere gratitude goes out to everyone who has donated to our Giving Tuesday campaign. Because of your generosity, we’re already 85% of the way toward our $75,000 goal!

Continuing with our schoolwide gratitude initiative, the students in Ms. Bok’s Second Grade class completed a “Bettering Our Community” writing activity. Each student wrote a paragraph outlining one way that they want to better their community and three ways that they would accomplish this. Many of the students chose to write about helping the environment, their school, or people experiencing homelessness. Be sure to stop by the Second Grade classroom to hear their plans for giving back to the community!

As part of our schoolwide campaign focused on giving and gratitude, the fourth grade students created thank you cards for our local community helpers. Today they delivered these cards to the firefighters at FDNY Battalion 11 Engine 76 & Ladder 22 on W 100th St. To thank them for this act of kindness, our students were invited inside the fire station to take a tour and ask the firefighters their questions. How surprised were we to be given the chance to explore the cab of a fire truck?! Thank you so much to all of the firefighters who risk their lives everyday to keep us safe. We are so grateful!

This morning, the Kindergarten class hosted our Friday Assembly! It takes a lot of bravery to present on stage, and they did a stand-up job sharing all about the people and things they love at ARS. Swipe through to see the kindergartners with a few of the many teachers and activities they love at our school!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to our Giving Tuesday campaign! We have already raised $50,000 of our $75,000 goal, all thanks to the generous donations of our community members. To share in the spirit of gratitude and giving back, the Third Grade class set up an “Appreciation Station” in the second floor hallway. Teachers and students have been encouraged to write something nice that they appreciate about a friend, teacher, or staff member at ARS, and then to post it on the Third Grade bulletin board for everyone to read. We hope that these notes of kindness and appreciation have made someone’s day a little bit brighter! ✨

There are 20 days until Giving Tuesday! In celebration of the month leading up to Giving Tuesday, each class is finding ways to practice giving and gratitude. Our fifth graders built an “Attitude of Gratitude Tree” on the bulletin board outside their classroom. Each leaf holds a message of thankfulness, creating a beautiful reminder of all we cherish. Students and teachers have already begun to populate this tree with grateful messages. Join us by adding your own thankful note and help our tree of gratitude grow! 🍁

To all veterans: Thank you for everything you do for our country and our freedom! Today and every day we thank veterans everywhere for their service. A special thank you to ARS parent Matt Rowe for sharing about his family’s experience serving in different branches of the military during last Friday’s assembly. 🇺🇸🎖️
