Lang's Office of Civic Engagement and Social Justice offers a wide range of opportunities to support your activism, commitment to social change, and exploration of justice and equity issues. Come Through!
We are experiencing a particularly heavy time in this country, with the recent attacks and the government's failure to address the needs of the communities impacted. We also want to acknowledge the stress and anxiety that our communities may be experiencing with the the midterm elections just around the corner. The stakes are high, especially for students of historically marginalized identities. CESJ and HEOP want to invite our community members to engage in proactive practice to resist against the lack of care and consideration our government has consistently shown up to this point. Join us in ACTION to push back and demand the resources students deserve.

🎞️ La Cocina de Las Patronas:
A Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion

Thursday May 3rd @ 6:30 PM
University Center | Room UL104

The Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility is pleased to host a screening and panel discussion around the documentary La Cocina de Las Patronas. This film tells the story of a group of women in rural Veracruz, who more than twenty years ago began cooking and delivering meals for Central American migrants travelling on the top of the freight trains that make up La Bestia. Since then, these women have not only been providing food to migrants in precarious situations, but have transformed their kitchen into a political space. Las Patronas have learned how to talk about Mexico’s problems, poverty in the countryside, human rights, society’s indifference towards migrants and about their own rights as women.

Following the documentary screening, a panel discussion will take place featuring Javier García, the documentary director, and producers Ana Paula Uruñuela and Iliana Martínez, chaired by The New School's Alexandra Délano.

This event is co-sponsored by New York University's Hemispheric Institute and The City University of New York's Jaime Lucero Mexican Studies Institute.
