Hello GS!

As we approach our first in-person finals season since 2019, GSSC is proud to reintroduce our MetroCard program! This program is meant to assist commuting students with the cost of transportation.

This semester, we are offering a small number of 16-trip MetroCards to GS commuter students. We hope that this will provide students with the flexibility to come to campus on the days they need, make museum and other field-trips, or any other finals related business.

You can review the GS subsidized ticket policy here. To apply, please fill out the GS subsidy form using this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeb896qk9xrTFSgPsd3SeENVTvkcVRiPmSgiJWy_qYRtlRpIQ/viewform (for Instagram, put this link in the linktree)

Deadline to apply is Friday, December 3rd, 2021

Get to know our Finance Committee!

The Finance Committee administers and monitors the budget of the GSSC, according to the provisions outlined in the GSSC Constitution. The Committee maintains and makes accessible detailed records of revenues, expenditures, and encumbrances of the GSSC, and submits a clear financial summary to the GSSC each week. The team also advises student organizations about GSSC financial procedures and allocations, upholds inter-group relations concerning budgetary and funding issues with the other councils and governing boards, and maintains a presence on the appropriate governing boards as outlined in the bylaws, keeping the GSSC abreast of relevant issues.

Hey GSers!

Let’s introduce you to our Student Body President, Serengeti Timungwa!

Serengeti (GS’22) first joined GSSC in the fall of 2019 as First Year President, and then served as Vice President of Policy on the GSSC during the 2020-2021 academic year.

Throughout her time on GSSC, Serengeti has been incredibly passionate about furthering policy that helps GS students. Some of the initiatives she worked on in the past two years have been freezing tuition during the 2020-2021 academic year, increasing Covid-19 emergency grants for impacted students, amending our Constitution and By-Laws to make them more inclusive, and advocating for more flexible grading policies during remote learning. Her goal is to constantly increase student representation in various spaces on campus to ensure student voices are always weighed into crucial decisions.

At Columbia, Serengeti hopes to implement policies that tackle inequity and inefficiency, and promote transparency and collaboration. Her virtual door is always open for any questions or a quick coffee chat!
