Sie möchten sicherer und spontaner Deutsch sprechen können. Durch abwechslungsreiche Einheiten erwerben Sie leicht und lustvoll neue Fertigkeiten und sprachliche Gewandtheit. Wir benutzen gezielte Sprech- und Schreibübungen. Gleichzeitig vertiefen Sie Ihre Grammatikkenntnisse, indem wir intensiv an Satzbau, Verbformen und Zeitenfolge arbeiten. Sie erweitern Ihren Wortschatz beim Lesen und Diskutieren von journalistischen und literarischen Kurztexten. Mit Filmen und Podcasts festigen Sie Ihr Hörverständnis und Ihr Wissen über Deutschland, Österreich und die Schweiz.

Raising children to be bilingual can be difficult; without a group of bilingual peers, children may find the second language frustrating. Deutsches Haus at NYU's fifteen-week Fall/Winter Term provides an exciting alternative with lessons modeled on those of the German school system. ✏️

Deutsches Haus at NYU will close at 4 PM on Friday, May 22, in observance of Memorial Day, a U.S. federal holiday dedicated to honoring and remembering fallen American service members. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 26.

In the United States, the red poppy became a symbol of remembrance and a longing for peace after the 1915 publication of Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields.” In the poem, the speaker reflects on red poppies blooming across fields where soldiers had lost their lives.

Eines unserer besonderen Kursangebote im Sommer 2026 (22. Juni bis 29. August) ist B2/C1 Afrodeutsche Literatur, ein Kurs der dienstags von 18 bis 20 persönlich stattfindet.

Das Wort "afrodeutsch" entstand in den 1980er Jahren, innerhalb einer feministischen, queeren und identitätspolitischen Gruppe in Westberlin und das Buch Farbe Bekennen. Afro-deutsche Frauen auf den Spuren ihrer Geschichte wurde 1986 publiziert. Das Buch beschreibt zum ersten Mal rassistische Alltagserfahrungen Schwarzer Menschen in der BRD und ist der Gründungstext einer afrodeutschen Identität.

In diesem Kurs wollen wir verschiedene Texte der afrodeutschen Bewegung lesen und fragen, wie Schwarzsein und Weißsein in Deutschland seit den 1980er Jahren konstruiert und erlebt wurde. Wir sprechen über Essays, Zeitschriftenartikel, Prosa und Gedichte, wie zum Beispiel die Lyrik von May Ayim, sowie Kurz- und Dokumentarfilme. Wir werden auch Schwarze deutsche Literatur der 2020er Jahre diskutieren, wie zum Beispiel Texte von Sharon Dodua Otoo und Olivia Wenzel.

Das Ziel des Kurses ist, die feministische und antirassistische Literatur- und Kulturproduktion in Deutschland kennenzulernen und Sprachkenntnisse in Diskussionen und kleinen Präsentationen zu verbessern. Alle Materialien werden den Teilnehmer*innen zur Verfügung gestellt. Ein Kursbuch ist nicht erforderlich.

Happy Cinco de Mayo from Deutsches Haus at NYU! 🇲🇽 Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration, held on May 5, in honor of the Mexican military victories over the French forces of Napoleon III in 1862.

After Mexican President Benito Juárez declared a temporary moratorium on the repayment of foreign debts, English, Spanish, and French troops invaded the country (whose independence from Spain came on September 16, 1821). 💰 Although the English and Spanish withdrew within a few months, French troops continued to fight, hoping to establish a monarchy in Mexico under the control of Emperor Maximilian I, a friend of Napoleon III.

On May 5, 1862, a group of mestizo and Indigenous Zapotec forces defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla. Although the war continued for another five years, the victory on May 5 became a symbol of Mexican resistance and culture, and it is now widely celebrated in parts of Mexico and the United States. 🇲🇽
