Sail Academy is back! We were so excited to welcome returning students back to the boathouse last week.
This week, we are hosting the next generation! Orientations are taking place through this and next week. Interested students attending Sail Academy partner schools, please contact your school for more info! Sailing for Scholars, HRCS’s week-long fundraising event, kicks off in one month! Join us for an unforgettable evening in the New York Yacht Club’s iconic Model Room as we celebrate our students and honor Kristen Berry, Director, North U and American Sailing Performance.

School is officially back in session today! But some of our students were busy at the boathouse right up until the very end of summer.

This summer, our Junior Educators worked full-time in four-week sessions, rotating through different responsibilities each week. They helped teach lessons, served as first mates on the water, supported younger sailors, and took turns photographing our programs in action.

For the second year, we also held a Junior Educator photo contest, and they gave us plenty to choose from. The photos here show our JEs in action, along with some of our favorite City Sail moments from the summer.

Shoutout to JE Leo for the winning shot in the first photo, and to all of our Junior Educators for capturing such a great summer from their point of view.

A very special morning on the water! 🌊

Our partners at 11th Hour invited HRCS to tour Francesca Clapcich’s IMOCA, bringing together community members including FairLeaders, program alumni, and current Sail Academy students.

We got a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into racing around the world and learned that The Ocean Race is about much more than competition. From navigating and living offshore to making decisions around wildlife and the environment, there’s an incredible amount happening beyond the finish line.

We’re especially proud to be a grantee of 11th Hour and grateful for their support of HRCS and our community. Opportunities like this make that partnership even more meaningful, giving our community members the chance to see the professional sailing world up close and learn from the people working at its forefront.

Last month, HRCS was proud to once again participate in Heroes on the Hudson, an annual adaptive sailing event for New York and New Jersey veterans. It’s always one of our favorite events of the year!

A huge thank you to Brooklyn Bridge Marina for hosting us while NYC Parks Dyckman Marina is shut down. We were especially excited to have more of our remote-operated hydraulic seat bases available this year, giving more sailors with spinal injuries the opportunity to get out on the water and experience sailing.

At HRCS, we’re continually working to make sailing more accessible through adaptive equipment, partnerships, and opportunities to get more people on the water.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this wonderful day possible! And a big thank you to our vets for their service and sacrifice!

HRCS recently welcomed the team from PJT Partners for a corporate volunteer day on the waterfront!

The team rolled up their sleeves to paint our chart room, bottom-paint our RIBs, and clean our PFDs. And, of course, we wanted them to get the full HRCS experience, so the day also included time out on the water for a sail. Thanks to PJT Partners for helping us keep the boathouse beautiful and functional!
