It was only fitting that Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals Rowan D. Wilson gave the keynote address at this year’s Commencement.

The position he holds once belonged to Supreme Court Justice Benjamin N. Cardozo, as did his Albany chambers and the desk at which he sits.

Chief Judge Wilson carried Justice Cardozo’s legacy in his remarks, imploring graduates to acknowledge the unknown and work to balance complexity in their legal careers.

“What I know each of you will do as graduates of the law school that lives its namesake’s principles every day, is to pursue his quest for the welfare of society in the face of inevitable, sometimes extraordinary changes. Relish the quest.”
