Work & Tot CLOSING SALE — FINAL WEEK

For those who may not know us, Work & Tot has been a Forest Hills co-working and children’s enrichment space for the past seven years — and at the end of August, we’ll be closing our doors.

Over the last week, so many pieces from our space have already found wonderful new homes. Some are heading to local schools and new children’s play spaces, while others are going home with Work & Tot families who have been part of our community over the years. A number of our larger furniture pieces have already sold — but we still have plenty left, and now we are officially in the everything-must-go stretch.

I’ll be on site tomorrow, Sunday, August 23 from 10 AM–12 PM, and additional viewing/pickup times can be arranged by appointment. Just text me at 347-612-8894 to arrange for a time to stop by.

Then comes our FINAL WEEKEND: August 29–30. Anything remaining has to go or it will be donated to local charities and schools.

Photos of currently available items and prices are included in this post. Availability will change quickly as items are claimed. We will operate on first come first served basis. If you cannot come to pick up at an agreed upon time the item will move to the next person on the wait list.

Still available items includes:

• EverBlocks — we still have a substantial number of blocks available, along with EverBlock components ($100 - for a mixed bundle of 50 (current Amazon price $360)
• Children’s furniture, toys, learning materials, STEM items and craft/workshop supplies
• Montessori and sensory materials
• Office and household items
• Décor, party/display pieces and miscellaneous storage
• Remaining furniture and larger pieces
• certain furniture pieces including chairs that still have plenty of life in them but show signs of wear and tear will be available for FREE.
• ALL CHILDREN’S BOOKS — $1 EACH
• 2” soundproofing tiles are — $2 EACH

A few important pickup notes:

EverBlocks and most children’s items must remain in use through our final week of camp and will be available for pickup August 29–30.

Many other furniture, office and household items can be picked up sooner.

If you see something in a photo you’re interested in, message me to claim it or arrange a time to see it. I cannot hold items indefinitely during the final week.

We have spent seven years filling this space with things our kids, families and community actually used and loved, and I would much rather see them continue their lives in someone else’s classroom, playroom, office or home than have them left behind.

I’ve been putting off writing this post for a few days now.

And here I am finally doing it late at night — and at 43, anything after 9:30 p.m. feels less like “late at night” and more like a questionable life choice.

Over the past week, I reached out individually to our current camp and after-school families and our co-working members because it was incredibly important to me that they hear this directly from us first. But somehow, sharing it here publicly makes everything feel much more final — and much harder.

After seven years, Work & Tot will be closing its physical location at the end of August.

Before I say anything else, I want to make one thing very clear: we are still here through August 28th. Camp and co-working will continue on their regular schedule, and ALL current and new bookings will be honored. So if you’ve been meaning to come work for the day, send your child to camp, or simply stop in one more time — please do. We would genuinely love to see you.

Work & Tot began seven years ago because, as a working parent, I desperately needed something that didn’t exist. Somewhere I could work while my child was nearby, cared for and engaged. Somehow that idea grew into so much more.

My family built this business alongside me. My kids, Avery and Hunter, especially, have quite literally grown up in Work & Tot — coming to work with me during school breaks, attending our events, helping behind the scenes and being part of the everyday life of this place. There has been an enormous amount of our family poured into these walls.

The simple reality is that the cost of running a small business has become too high. Rent, taxes, utilities, insurance and operating expenses continued to rise while the way people work changed dramatically and co-working attendance declined. Eventually, the numbers simply stopped working.

And yet, I am incredibly proud of this little business.

We survived COVID while continuing to carry rent and expenses. We pivoted, moved into our Forest Hills home five years ago and kept going. We created small-group camps, after-school programs, art and enrichment, a place for children to make enormous messes and beautiful things — and, of course, a place for the grownups to get some work done too.

Most importantly, we became part of the lives of so many families.

I’m excited to find out what comes next — and after seven years of running a small business, I may even attempt the radical experiment of taking a few actual days off. But I am also incredibly sad to close this chapter.

As we prepare to leave our 1,500 sq. ft. home, we will also be holding an Everything Must Go / Work & Tot Move-Out Sale. Furniture, EverBlock oversized modular blocks, children’s furniture, MUtable pieces, tables and chairs, toys, games, books, art and craft materials, Ruggable rugs, sensory and classroom equipment, portable lap desks, lamps, monitors, appliances, storage, décor and seven years’ worth of miscellaneous things will all be available at significantly reduced prices — with many items starting at just a few dollars and some things free.

I’ll post more photos, prices and sale information separately.

And while Work & Tot’s physical space is closing, we are not leaving Forest Hills. My family and I will continue to call this neighborhood home. I hope to see you at the playground, walking down Austin Street, over coffee, at playdates and in all the ordinary places where our lives have crossed outside of Work & Tot.
