Then and now:
January 2014–Hired by BWI’s Brooklyn Woods social venture cabinet manufacturing business, Pamela (Cycle ‘13A), Luciano (Cycle ‘13D), Kelvin (Cycle ‘13C) and Angel (Cycle F ‘08) with stools made for Bade, Stageberg and Cox, Architects and the 2014 Armory Show.
After after 6 months Pamela was placed at BarronArts in July of 2014 where she has been making custom museum quality stretchers and panels for close to 11 years!!
After 8 months in our shop, Kelvin was placed at European Closet, Inc before making his way to Schematic in 2016, where he now runs the CNC router!
Angel was hired in 2009 and became our shop foreman in 2014 and continues to run the crew!

So proud of Brooklyn Woods graduate Leslie from Cycle ‘24B ( #119), who was hired as a Machinist’s Apprentice at GMD Shipyard! After graduating from BW in May of 2024, Leslie began her employment journey with a part-time placement at Brooklyn West, as a workshop fabricator. While working there she applied and was accepted into the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s CNC Operator Training, a free, 16 week Saturday program. In late July of ‘24, we hired her at Brooklyn Woods’ social venture cabinet business, where she learned to operate the Weeke Vantech, our nested base CNC router. Leslie spent the next 5 months cutting out cabinet parts for the 60 unit rehab project for the Fifth Avenue Committee’s Warren Street building, and vanity parts for Monadnock Construction’s 90 unit project at 151 Blake Avenue. Kudos to Leslie!

Shoutout to GMD Shipyard, MakerSpace NYC and ApprenticeNYC for the amazing tour of the shipyard yesterday! Also, congrats to Brooklyn Woods Grads Leslie, a recent GMD hire as a Machinist and Nadine, who has completed the Advanced Manufacturing program at ApprenticeNYC.
