I’ve Graduated, Now What?

Young artists often face a post-graduation future with no certain career track or obvious starting point. SVA BFA Comics and BFA Illustration chair Viktor Koen will speak with artists Sarula Bao (Endless Editions, The New Yorker) and Nakata “Knack” Whittle (Sweet Valley Twins) and with publisher and editor Robyn Chapman (First Second Books, Paper Rocket) about their own experiences and the advice they give to beginning artists. This special professional development panel is co-organized and sponsored by the School of Visual Arts, Division of Continuing Education.

In celebration of Black History Month, this Sunday, February 23, David Elmo Cooper will be on a panel at Books of Wonder discussing his work on his recent non-fiction children’s book, The Doll Test: Choosing Equality. Other panelists will include writer Andrea Davis Pickney discussing her new book, And She Was Loved: Toni Morrison’s Life and illustrator Sirin Thada discussing her work on The Purple One: A Story of Prince.

The Society of Illustrators is exhibiting a Will Eisner show at the Philippe Labaune Gallery in Chelsea. Discover the legacy of the late American artist known as the ‘father of the modern graphic novel.’ Enjoy over 60 original illustrations, strips, and other sketches from selected works, including US Army illustrations from 1941, The Spirit (featuring a full 7-page story), and A Contract with God: The Super in its entirety.
