Krystal Medina, a Barnard sophomore, scored a dramatic goal in the 89th minute to propel the Columbia women’s soccer team to an improbable come-from-behind, Ivy League win over rival Penn, 3-2, on Saturday.

Medina’s unassisted goal gave the Lions their third straight win, moving to 3-1 in Ivy League play and tied with Harvard and Dartmouth atop the league standings.

This is the second consecutive game that Medina capped Columbia’s scoring, netting her first goal of the season on October 10 against Cornell.

On Monday, the world got to know Michael Woodford, the 2026 Nobel Prize winner in Economics.

We know him as one of the nine co-founders of the Cognitive Science Program that spans Barnard College, Columbia College, and Columbia University.

We know him as an advisor to Barnard students’ senior projects.

We know him as current member of the Cognitive Science Program’s steering committee.

We know him because he has chosen to make his mark in Morningside Heights — and the world.

Alumna Greta Gerwig ’06 is stepping through the wardrobe with a first look at her upcoming Netflix adaptation, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew."

Speaking on her deep connection to C.S. Lewis’s classic series, Gerwig shared:
"I would not be who I am without these books. They created me."

From directing record-breaking blockbusters to reimagining world-building fantasy, Gerwig continues to showcase the power of storytelling on a global scale.

Congratulations to poet and classics scholar Anne Carson, who has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature!

We are proud that our Barnard Center for Research on Women hosted Carson in 2012 for a reading from her work. Her enduring contribution to literature exemplifies the caliber of global thinkers and artists who define the Barnard experience — voices that inspire our students and enrich our tradition of intellectual rigor and creative excellence.

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2026 was awarded to Anne Carson “for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature.”

In partnership with The Shed and The Zora Project, Barnard College's Francine A. LeFrak Foundation Center for Well-Being, Department of Africana Studies, and Office of Inclusion and Belonging invite you to The Zora Project Salon!

The Zora Project is making an original musical work inspired by the writing of iconic Barnard alumna Zora Neale Hurston, Class of 1928. This salon invites you inside that work as it comes to life. Under the vision and direction of Tanya Birl-Torres, this salon is part of Barnard’s celebration of the centennial anniversary of Zora’s enrollment and graduation.

Composers Crystal Monée Hall and Jayme Stone write original songs sparked by Zora’s writing. At each gathering, new music is performed live, the source text is read aloud, and the room responds, and what happens here shapes what comes next. Song by song, salon by salon, the piece comes together.

Last week, the Alumnae Association of hosted its annual Leadership Assembly, where alumnae gained firsthand information about the College, discussed ideas, built community, and expanded their training on planning engaging activities for their classmates.

Program highlights included hearing firsthand updates from College senior leadership; exchanging valuable information and learning from peer volunteers; honing skills as a knowledgeable, committed Barnard leader; networking with other alumnae leaders; and gathering useful tools and insights to aid in volunteer work.
