Build it Green

Recently, Build it Green had the opportunity to host a thoughtful conversation on the future of urban agriculture in NYC with Agritecture . Moderated by Henry Gordon-Smith , with insights from Yolanda Gonzalez, Ben Flanner , Derek Pitts , and Meghan Groome. The panel dug into what’s actually changed in urban ag, where the field has fallen short, and what it really takes to scale sustainable, financially viable operations. From policy and financing barriers to the roles of technology, private sector innovation, and workforce development, the discussion challenged assumptions and highlighted where real progress is still needed.

We recently had the opportunity to visit Sendero Verde, a passive housing development in East Harlem, for a fantastic tour led by Louis Koehl from Handel Architects. We learned about the many components that make a successful affordable housing project, from integrating social services and community amenities to designing buildings that meet Passive House performance standards.

Huge thanks to the team for sharing their expertise and giving us a behind-the-scenes look at one of NYC’s most innovative affordable housing developments.
