The Tikvah Fund Promoting serious Jewish thought about the enduring questions of human life and the pressing challenges that confront the Jewish people.

Tikvah is an educational institution and think tank committed to supporting the intellectual, religious, and political leaders of the Jewish people and the Jewish State. Tikvah runs and invests in a wide range of initiatives in Israel, the United States, and around the world, including educational programs, publications, and fellowships. We invite you to explore some of these initiatives through the links on this page. Our animating mission and guiding spirit is to advance Jewish excellence and Jewish flourishing in the modern age. Tikvah is politically Zionist, economically free-market oriented, culturally traditional, and theologically open-minded. Yet in all issues and subjects, we welcome vigorous debate and big arguments. Our institutes, programs, and publications all reflect this spirit of bringing forward the serious alternatives for what the Jewish future should look like, and bringing Jewish thinking and leaders into conversation with Western political, moral, and economic thought.

At a lunch in 2012, Hay Eytan Cohen Yanarocak sat beside Bernard Lewis and heard a prediction he couldn't accept: that Turkey might one day become an existential threat to Israel. Years later, writing on Turkish-Israeli relations, he can no longer dismiss it. Watch the full conversation: https://youtu.be/tjeFF6naw4c

UT Austin regular application closes Dec. 1. Rosenthal-Levy early track closes Dec. 15. Students apply to UT Austin and to Rosenthal-Levy separately.

Rachel Fish offers her read on what drives some scholars' hostility toward Israel. She calls it moral narcissism: a compulsion to distance oneself, to declare "not in my name," and to insist Israel was born in sin. If that premise holds, she argues, being on the so-called right side of history means favoring the state's dissolution. Not long ago, Hussein Aboubakr Mansour notes, no politician with hope of winning office would tell the public that American history was something to be ashamed of. Now candidates for the Senate and the presidency say it openly. His argument isn't that they came to believe it—it's that saying it became politically profitable. And he sees the same mechanism now operating around Israel. Watch the full conversation: https://youtu.be/2WVipRfcrLY

Hebraic ideas helped shape America’s founding language of equality, covenant, liberty, and opposition to tyranny. In their new essay for National Affairs, Eric Cohen and Steven Price argue that work is far from finished—and that Jews and Christians alike share responsibility for transmitting this inheritance to the next generation. The argument builds on Cohen's earlier essay with Jonathan Silver in Mosaic, "America's Hebraic Awakening," which likewise argues that recovering America's Hebraic inheritance is essential to national renewal.

Turkey issued arrest warrants against Israel's prime minister and defense minister—which might look partisan, aimed at one government. But Hay Eytan Cohen Yanarocak points to another name on the sanctions list: Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, a figure Israelis regard as above politics and who would stay in place under any government. His conclusion: this isn't a quarrel with Netanyahu. It's with Israel itself. Watch the full conversation: https://youtu.be/tjeFF6naw4c

Should Jewish art get its own gallery?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York displays its Hanukkah lamps and Torah crowns among European silver, as fine examples of Rococo and Baroque style. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston took the opposite approach, opening a gallery devoted entirely to Jewish ritual art, from a Yemenite headdress to a Baghdadi Torah case to work by contemporary Israeli artists.

In the latest installment of The Seeing Eye, Jacob Wisse visits both museums and asks which one lets you see these objects for what they really are.
