Today was a reminder that growth isn’t just about paperwork and next steps, it’s also about being present 💛
While checking in on his college application, one of our amazing fathers took a moment to slow down, tap into creativity, and create something meaningful. 🎨
He hand-painted a hat for himself and a special duffle bag for his 2-year-old daughter 🥹✨
Because sometimes the most powerful resources we offer aren’t just information—but space to breathe, create, and connect.

At the Fatherhood Academy, mentorship is about giving back, and Alex Quito embodies just that. As a dedicated mentor in our program, Alex supports and inspires fellow participants by sharing his journey, encouraging growth, and leading by example.
“My name is Alex Quito, and my educational journey began in 2017 with the CUNY Fatherhood Academy, a program that not only helped me earn my GED but also inspired me to pursue higher education. Surrounded by supportive mentors and ambitious peers, I discovered a passion for philosophy and began working toward my associate’s degree.
My long-term goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in the arts and become a criminal defense attorney. The biggest motivation behind everything I do is my 10-year-old daughter, Amy, who pushes me to keep growing and striving for success.
Outside of school, I enjoy sports like soccer, basketball, football, and baseball, and I also love cooking. I strongly believe it’s never too late to start something new, especially when it can improve your life and positively impact the people around you.”
Alex’s journey has come full circle, from participant to mentor, and we are incredibly proud of the leader he has become. His commitment to growth, education, and supporting others reflects the true spirit of the Fatherhood Academy. We celebrate you, Alex, and all that you continue to accomplish!

and the CUNY Fatherhood Academy continue to build meaningful conversations through our Barbershop Series 💈
A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of welcoming Randy Moore, Foundation President at CD&R, for a powerful discussion on navigating different spaces without losing one’s sense of self. His message on authenticity, growth, and finding your “tribe” resonated deeply with our students and staff 🫱🏽🫲🏾
Now, we look forward to continuing the conversation with Ron West and his upcoming workshop, “Interview Season”,focused on helping students prepare for professional opportunities with confidence and intention 🎤
More conversations. More growth. More community.
