I write to tell you that--after a hiatus last summer--Literacy Unbound will return this July 2022, and we'll remain entirely online. This means, of course, that anyone anywhere in the world might participate! Together, we'll be exploring Julia Alvarez's In the Time of the Butterflies and considering particularly the intersections between literature and history. As in 2020, our core practices will remain the same, but in place of our traditional in person performance, our work this summer will culminate in the live streaming of a collaboratively produced original film. Below is the official Literacy Unbound 2022 Summer Institute call for applications.

We're moving online this year! Together, we'll explore Jhumpa Lahiri's Pulitzer Prize-winning short story collection Interpreter of Maladies in the Literacy Unbound Summer Institute 2020 (synchronous work July 20-August 1). Working with teaching artists and our team of facilitators, selected high school students and teachers will collaborate to produce an original film...join us to take this leap! Apply by Monday, June 8th! CTLE hours will be available.

A call for all teachers AND students:
Literacy Unbound is happening again. We are moving the institute online. I'm excited about the creative possibilities. I am also excited because students and teachers can now participate without the difficulty of spending two weeks in NYC in July.
