Tonight Fuat Tokgozol (oud) and Steven Long (piano) presented Oud and Piano Dialogues. Fuat Tokgozol’s original compositions for oud reimagined and blended with piano, created a unique sound world. This was the second concert in the series. Together, they captured the spirit of these pieces so naturally. We were thrilled to experience the dialogue between the oud and piano as it unfolded.
Thank you to the Hungarian House for hosting, Sonic Solutions for the excellent sound system, and everyone who came out to listen. Thank you, LMCC for the grant support. Presented by TIME, Fuat Tokgozol’s Oud and Piano Dialogues took place last night at The New School. Fuat Tokgozol and Jemina Brechoire created something truly special on stage. Tokgozol performed his original compositions on oud and Brechoire’s beautiful, expressive piano playing blended with the oud so naturally that the concert felt like a warm conversation between two old friends…
Following the concert, Tokgozol introduced the oud and explained makams (modal music), how they connect to, and differ from, Western musical traditions.
More performances are coming soon, and we can’t wait to share them with you. Huge thanks to LMCC for making this project possible.
