Bel Canto Institute will celebrate 30 years of summer programs this summer. Florence, Italy, here we come!!

Bel Canto Institute is a nonprofit organization which was founded in 1987. Our purpose is to teach and perpetuate style and tradition in 19th and 20th Century Italian opera and song through summer programs we hold in Florence, Italy. The founder is Jane Bakken Klaviter, Prompter and Assistant Conductor with the Metropolitan Opera (ret.). Her mentor and friend was the renowned Italian conductor and coach, the late Maestro Luigi Ricci in whose memory Bel Canto Institute was founded. The Youth Division Summer Programs are dedicated to the late Luciano Pavarotti, long time colleague and friend of Jane Klaviter. PLEASE NOTE: Bel Canto Institute has absolutely NO affiliation with and NO likeness to any other organization that uses the words bel canto institute.

We are thrilled with the wonderful participants we have for the 2020 summer programs in Florence, Italy, the birthplace of opera. I am happy to o be able to pass down traditions in Italian opera and song to the next generation of singers. I am proud of them and of the incredible faculty for Bel Canto Institute!
