The Juilliard School Pre-College The Pre-College meets on Saturdays, from September through May, for 30 weeks of instruction.

The Juilliard Pre-College is a comprehensive conservatory-style music program for students 8–18 years old who exhibit the talent, potential and ambition to pursue serious music study at the college level. The Pre-College offers a comprehensive conservatory-style music program for students 8–18 years old who exhibit the talent, potential and ambition to pursue serious music study at the college level. Students work with world-class faculty—many of whom are on the Juilliard college faculty—to develop technical proficiency while fostering creativity and intellectual curiosity. Recognizing the importance of early development and discipline in the music field, the School provides an atmosphere where artistic gifts and technical skills can flourish. The curriculum includes weekly lessons in the major field, chamber music, and classes in music theory and ear training. Additional electives are offered in areas such as composition, music history, conducting, and other specialized topics. Students are given ample opportunities in solo, chamber, and orchestral concerts. As part of Lincoln Center, Juilliard's proximity to the Metropolitan Opera, David Geffen Hall, David H. Koch Theater, the Vivian Beaumont Theater, and the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center provides wonderful opportunities for students to expand and deepen their knowledge of music, opera, drama, and dance.

On Saturday, February 21, Juilliard’s Preparatory Division Brass & Percussion Open House is your chance to see what MAP and Pre-College are really like. Whether you’re thinking about auditioning this spring or just curious about the program, this is a great way to explore what’s possible.

From 5–7pm, you’ll catch live student performances, masterclasses, and get a feel for the studios, faculty, and vibe at Juilliard. Stick around after for a Pre-College Orchestra Concert at 7:30pm in the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre—free to attend (ticket required).

Conducted by Xian Zhang, the program features a newly commissioned work by Gabriela Ortiz, Ravel Piano Concerto performed by Pre-College student Chengyao Zhou, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.

We’re excited to welcome four extraordinary artists and educators to our Preparatory Division this fall. 🎶

Joining the Pre-College violin faculty are acclaimed violinists Stella Chen, Ellen dePasquale, and Randall Goosby—with Ellen also bringing her talents to the Music Advancement Program (MAP) faculty. In addition, Jonathan Villegas will join the MAP faculty as wind ensemble conductor.
