IDII is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization founded in 1977 by dancer Maria-Theresa Duncan

Duncan’s art, philosophy and pedagogy thrive in the vast body of technique, choreography and expressive arts active within The Isadora Duncan International Institute. The organization stands rooted as a living model of eternal ideals in present time. The miracle of stillness, silence and repose—modes rediscovered in the West by Duncan as a treasury for embodiment—serve the dancer to walk, run, ski

In the beginning was the dance. Predating Greek theater as an art form, women, in spontaneous motion upon threshing grounds, rhythmically stamped on stone to crush the grain, nourish the populace and enact the “glorious childbirth of the dance.” In continuity, we are fed via animate, archetypal embodiment to dance, interconnecting mystery to knowledge and all that lies between. Honoring the Greater Eleusinian Mysteries, celebrated to vitalize the life force for almost 1,500 years on the last 9 days of September, we shall craft theatre-dance ceremonies of recollection in 8 hours together. “Out of ourselves and something greater than all selves,” as in mystery, we shall pierce the veil bearing promise of what touches individual and communal wholeness and stability.

Over the course of two days, immerse yourself in theatre-dance ceremonies designed to explore and rekindle these profound traditions. Whether you attend in person or virtually, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into these sacred practices under the guidance of Dr. Jeanne Bresciani.
