This Throwback Thursday we’re headed back to the 1970s, when ball gloves and striped polos were the norm on the Close, and sunny afternoons felt like they lasted forever. Do you have your own throwback photos from your time at Cathedral? If so, please send them our way! We’d love to feature them!

Making, Building, Creating!

At Cathedral, learning isn’t confined to a textbook. In our Innovation Lab, a vibrant space for making, inventing, and exploring, students use everything from 3D pens and printers to laser cutters and programmable robots to bring their ideas to life.

Whether it’s crafting wearable tech or shaping a first prototype, our students get to build, experiment, and collaborate every single day, bridging classroom concepts with real-world applications. This is what it looks like when hands-on learning meets genuine joy.

It was so wonderful to reconnect with alums Amanda Jones ‘09 and Emily Fraser ‘11, along with longtime teacher Mr. Howard Nusbaum, who all returned to the Close to celebrate beloved French teacher Madame A. this spring. Moments like these remind us why our community is so special.

This Throwback Thursday, we’re headed back to the 1970s, when planet costumes were cut from poster board, paper eye masks made the best costumes, and striped ties were vital to our school’s uniform.

Learning, One Student at a Time!

At Cathedral, class sizes stay small so every student gets the attention they need. Whether it’s working through a math problem or asking a question that leads to a new discovery, our teachers are right there alongside our students, guiding them.

This is what it looks like when curiosity is met with real support.

This spring, Alum Yasmin Ghatan ‘15 and Ms. Linda Brown reunited on campus, and this hug says it all. Yasmin is just one of countless students who passed through these halls and carried a piece of this community with her long after graduation. From 1982 to 2016, Ms. Brown served as receptionist, school assistant, and assistant teacher, welcoming generations of students through these doors. We’re so glad to have them both back on the Close!

Congratulations to Avery Pflueger ’22! A recent graduate of The Bronx High School of Science, Avery will be attending The Bandier Program at Syracuse University to study Music Business, Industry, and Analytics. Between starting her own band and crushing it on the soccer field, Avery continues to take Cathedral’s Core Values from her community into the world.

“I will never be able to fully express the gratitude I have for this school. Attending Cathedral for nine years gave me the opportunity to build such a strong foundation for myself - academically, socially, and in character. There’s a little bit of Cathedral in every single that I do - and I’m sure that will continue to be true throughout the rest of my life.”

We are so proud of you, Avery!

An Unparalleled Manhattan Campus!

Cathedral is the only school in Manhattan set on its own campus, a secure 11-acre oasis with two playgrounds, two gymnasiums, and sweeping green lawns most city schools can only dream of.

Surrounded by Central Park, Morningside Park, Riverside Park, Columbia University, and Barnard College, our students don’t just attend school in New York City, they learn within it. Nature, culture, and intellectual life aren’t separate from the school day here. They’re part of it.

Congratulations to Hudson Brown ’22! A recent graduate of The Lawrenceville School, Hudson will be studying at Denison University in the fall. During his time at Cathedral, Hudson often danced at assembly, even choreographing a number from ‘Hamilton’ for the third grade. He took those talents to high school, where he served as the Co-Captain and Co-Choreographer for the dance team.

“A favorite memory from my time at Cathedral was Friday morning assembly. The safe space that it provided enabled me to feel comfortable performing in front of people.”

We are so proud of you, Hudson!
