The BMCC Criminal Justice Program brought 30 criminal justice majors to the Eastern Sociological Society (ESS) conference in Washington, DC from February 29 to March 2. Scholars participated in panel discussions (we saw our professors in action! Go ‘head Drs. Davis, Leyro, and Margaryan!), plenaries, and award ceremonies, explored the city, visited museums, and enjoyed delicious meals! We also celebrated our own Dr. Shirley Leyro, who won the Barbara R. Walters award for her scholarly work. This opportunity was made possible by the Perkins Postsecondary Career & Technical Education Grant. Stay tuned for more experiential learning opportunities! To join the next trip, keep an eye on your email. Special thanks to Prof. Satenik Margaryan and Prof. Vollman (took care of all the logistics✅) for organizing and coordinating, and Prof. Margaryan for managing 30 college students in DC 😬 (she’s amazing y’all!), Prof. Shenique Davis and Prof. Shirley Leyro for onsite support💪🏾, and Prof. Michelle Ronda for securing the bag🤑! Period! 😉🌟
