Have y'all met Oneika? She facilitates workshops, trainings and retreats around the country centered around resilience, liberation and compassion. She was the first Mindfulness Coach at Rikers Island Correctional Facility and is apart our MTT teacher team! Oneika is a graduate of IDP's MTT cohort of 2019.

Oneika transitioned to yoga and meditation from a career in corporate retail over 10 years ago, and used that experience to support social justice work. She focuses on the power of lovingkindness and the mindfulness meditation practice of Metta.

She believes, "Our practice must be the machete which clears away the things that keep us distant from ourselves and each other. A skillful practice should be the guidepost which leads us home. Collective care is self-care."

Thank you for being apart of the IDP community. We're beyond grateful to learn from you and be encouraged by your commitment to practice and liberation. ❤🌻🌍 Friends, you'll have the opportunity to learn with her in our upcoming MTT.

We hope you'll join us next weekend!

Meditation is...

A practice of focusing your mind. Meditation is not “not thinking”
Meditation is not supposed to be easy but it is the paramita of “joyful effort.” It can be practiced many different ways: seated, standing, or lying down. Meditation is not a remedy – it may not be for everyone and that’s okay. We don’t meditate to be good meditators, we meditate to be discerning enough to make choices that are more helpful than harmful.

Here’s a photo of our community gathering a few weeks ago. Awakening in Nature with 🍂 Maho opened this workshop with a check-in before we practiced sitting and walking meditation.

In between practice, we held space for pause and reflection then continued to practice. We closed with shared experiences, answered questions about the exercises and ended with gratitude. We’ll be offering another one December 7th!

Have you practiced some form of mindfulness today? 🪷Have you found some time to sit?
