Our Grade 7 students traveled throughout northern Arizona to think deeply about climate justice, water rights, and our shared responsibility to care for the world around us. Along the way, they had the opportunity to learn from and work with the and the Hopi people while exploring some of the region’s most remarkable landscapes and communities.

Over the course of the week, students hiked beneath star-filled skies, built windbreaks and planted beans, walked the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, discussed water usage at the Glen Canyon Dam, visited Seven Magic Mountains, and found time to simply be kids through activities like rock climbing, bowling, and more.

Scroll through to experience the trip through their eyes. Every photo in this carousel was captured by students!

Our annual Multicultural Fair was a joyful celebration of the many cultures, traditions, and stories that make up our community. Through music, dance, food, crafts, activities, and meaningful conversations, our students and their families had the opportunity to learn from one another and experience the richness of identities that help shape our school!

Special Visitors Day was a HUGE thumbs up! We were so excited to welcome all of our Special Visitors to campus on Friday to visit with our Lower School students. From a great performance in morning by all of the students—complete with tap dancing, recorders, and even surprise kazoos!—to classroom visits and fun activities, everyone on campus couldn’t help but smile. As one student said, “Today wasn’t a good day. It was the BEST day!” We’re already looking forward to next year!

There’s a consistency to the work happening in our classrooms each day. Over time, that work adds up and our students become more curious about the world and their learning. They build confidence in who they are and how they advocate for themselves and others. They develop the courage to lead with care and purpose. This is what it looks like to live our mission.

We’re grateful for the energy and heart our professional staff bring and for the ways they shape our community every single day. Happy Teacher’s Appreciation week. Thank you

Our Book Festival is officially underway! This week, we welcomed Emma Otheguy, who led a poetry workshop with our students before joining our full community in the amphitheater for a reading, Q&A, and book signing.

From writing their own poems to engaging directly with an author, it was a powerful start to this annual SLS tradition.
We’re looking forward to the rest of the festival. More voices, stories, and warm moments ahead. Stay tuned!

Last Friday, our Grade 5 students had the incredible opportunity to interview a technologist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory! During this interview, students learned about the what goes into creating spacecrafts and the immense number of people who make research possible. Along with learning about the journey to work at NASA, the Grade 5 class got to hear more about the Artemis II mission and ask questions about rockets, Mars, and so much more 🚀 🌖 💫

“Mentions”, our Lower School assembly, came alive with the energy and excitement of lion dancers as we celebrated Lunar New Year together!

And in true St. Luke’s School fashion, the celebrations continued afterward with an evening of learning and connection at our wonton-making party! Our families shared reflections on what Lunar New Year means to them, we all practiced New Year greetings in multiple languages like Cantonese and Mandarin, we got crafty by decorating red envelopes, and some of us made delicious wontons!

Our Grade 8 students traveled through the American South on their Civil Rights Trip, with time in Atlanta, Montgomery, and Birmingham. Through visits to historic sites, museums, memorials, and HBCUs, they engaged deeply with the history of the Civil Rights Movement and the ongoing work of leadership and social change.

The haibuns and photos shared here were written by students as reflections on their experiences, capturing moments of learning, emotion, and growth in their own words.
