Life Update 💍

08/09/2024

I noticed something very early on teaching teens: They don’t open up and trust you because you position yourself as an expert on the topic or because you take it seriously. Teens come to you because you are real and see them as equals. Trust and the hard conversations that come with a health class flow more easily when you focus on your student’s lives, their concerns, and their world, and when you relate to them on a level they understand…Play. Fun. Games.

Humor and fun have always been my ways to connect with students and build trust. I approach all my units with engagement as my number one objective because when they are naturally interested, they learn!

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this!!

New photos = Reintroduction time! 📸 I’m Katie, an incidental health curriculum designer. I say incidental because this was never really the plan. I just started teaching health and wasn’t impressed with the health lessons available. I wanted more engagement, deeper conversations, FUN, and also visually appealing lessons that the teens I taught would stay awake for. So I made my own. NOW, my lessons are in 10,000+ classrooms around the world 🌍, and I’m SO excited to see that grow!!

I’m all for empowering teens to live healthy lives, and I found the best way to do that is to have some fun in the process with games, simulations, real talk...

Now, for some non-school related stuff, because remember as a teen when you ran into a teacher outside of school, it was shocking that they had a life? 😂 well, I have a life too.

I’m an expat living in Warsaw, Poland 🇵🇱. I just vibe with the Europeans—better food 🍽️, slower life... I signed up for that and think I’ll stay. I’m studying to become a Pilates instructor 🧘. I hate coffee but LOVE matcha 🍵. I’m a board game fanatic (Marrakech is my favorite🎲), and I’m about to get married in Marrakech.. not because of the game, but because my fiancé is Moroccan.

Anyways, I’m just happy you’re here, and if you stick around, you’ll see lots of goodies come your way with freebies and new resource updates. Let’s be friends? 🤝
