The Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program (MAP) is a Saturday instrument instruction program for students ages 8 to 17 who reside in NY, NJ and CT.

MAP targets children from backgrounds underrepresented in American performing arts. Qualified applicants must have at least two years of experience playing their instrument and should demonstrate high musical potential. This Saturday, February 21, Juilliard’s Preparatory Division Brass & Percussion Open House is your chance to see what MAP and Pre-College are really like. Whether you’re thinking about auditioning this spring or just curious about the program, this is a great way to explore what’s possible!

From 5–7pm, you’ll catch live student performances, masterclasses, and get a feel for the studios, faculty, and vibe at Juilliard. Stick around after for a Pre-College Orchestra Concert at 7:30pm in the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre (free to attend, ticket required).

For our last post in this series, meet Noah, our Composition Fellow! Learn more about Noah below:

Noah Godard is a Californian composer based in New York City. His music often reflects on our relationship with the environment, the saturation of modern life, and the connection between cultural and geographical identity. Noah is currently pursuing a BM in composition at the Juilliard School, studying with Matthias Pintscher and Nina C. Young.

Noah currently holds the LA Phil’s Steven Stucky Composer Fellow Chair, having previously been an LA Phil Composer Fellow for three years. He has taken part in programs including the Bowdoin Festival, Yellow Barn’s Young Artists’ Program, and MATA Jr.; and has worked with ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hub New Music, Sandbox Percussion, the Lyris Quartet, the Bergamot Quartet, and the Nu Deco Ensemble. Noah’s music has received recognition from organizations including Juilliard, ASCAP, the Entraide Française, and YoungArts. His mentors outside of Juilliard have included Brett Banducci, Andrew Norman, Sarah Gibson, and Thomas Kotcheff.

A passionate teacher, Noah is a Composer-Mentor and the incoming Program Director of the NowBeat Project and has been contracted as a composition instructor by the Rhythmic Music Conservatory of Denmark. He is also an ear training teaching fellow at the Juilliard School and the composition teaching fellow for Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program. Aside from music, Noah has studied as a bonsai artist for six years. In his free time, he enjoys baking, hiking, studying linguistics, and drinking tea.
