The Periphery will showcase 20 interactive media thesis projects created by the ITP Class of 2026.
What is in the periphery of systems, visions, and identities is often overlooked; It is in this place where things begin to warp and lose clarity. But it is precisely at the edges of our sight where different worlds intersect and sink into one another. In the periphery, you can find room for experimentation, rule-breaking, and new approaches to making.
The Periphery will showcase 20 interactive media thesis projects created by the ITP Class of 2026:

Learn the basics of carving wood with hand tools to produce a fun and functional piece!
Learn the basics of carving wood with hand tools to produce a fun and functional piece!
Spoon carving is not something easily done in one sitting. The purpose of this class is to educate students on the tools and processes involved in crafting a unique hardwood utensil. During the class, students will learn the difference between hardwood and softwood, the qualities of wood grain, and how to work with the wood that they have selected for their piece.
Students will be taught how to carve out the inner bowl of their spoon with gouges, shape the exterior and handle with carving knives, and refine the shape with rasps and files. Sanding and finishing will be explained as students may not reach this stage during the class time, and this is a process that can take multiple days!
This is a skills-learning class, and participants are not guaranteed to go home with a finished product. Students will be able to return to NYC Resistor during Craft Nights to access hand tools to work on their pieces to their satisfaction.
Who is this class for?
Beginner/Intermediate woodworkers, no prior experience needed
Your Instructor:
Atlas Thomas is a multimedia sculptor with experience working with mediums such as ceramics, textiles, glass, and wood. He learned the art of spoon carving at Pratt Institute, and was a member of the Fine Arts Woodshop Staff Spoon Club for 2 years.

Come to the NYC Resistor FLAT MARKET. This event is an exploration of everything that thrives without a Z-axis.
There will be zines, comics, books, paintings, cards, screenprints, woodblock, lithographs and so many stickers. Stickers for your laptop, your water bottle, your friend, a stranger (ask first), your ceiling, your future self… the possibilities are flat and endless.
Bulky gifts are a burden and take up too much real estate in a NYC apartment. So show you care and give FLAT this holiday season.
We’ll also have a tarot reader on-site, ready to peer into the destiny that only the cards know.
