Singing is a skill actors are often required to use in performance—and this class is designed to take the fear and intimidation out of singing.

Singing for Actors provides a fun, supportive environment where each student is met at their individual level while learning to use the voice as a tool for storytelling, expression, and truthful performance.

Over the course of the class, students will work together on an ensemble song selected to match the group’s collective ability, often from the musical theatre repertoire.

PLAYWRITING FOR ACTORS

Playwriting for Actors is a structured, eight-week course that introduces actors to the fundamental principles of storytelling and dramatic writing, using the actor’s practical understanding of human behavior as a foundation for developing strong, active, and playable dramatic material. Taught by award winning playwright and Edward Albee fellow, Anne Phelan.

Students will use the skills and instincts they have developed as actors to strengthen the writing process, creating circumstances, relationships, objectives, and dramatic actions that feel truthful, specific, and human.

By the end of eight weeks, each student will have developed:

An original monologue
A complete short play
