The Saint Jean Baptiste school year is officially underway! Last week, our newest Jeanites joined us for Freshman Orientation, meeting their classmates and teachers and getting familiar with life at SJB.

Our Academic Dean, Ms. Pilch, welcomed the Class of 2030 with a message about growth, openness, and the importance of sisterhood. Drawing on the words of our foundress, Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys, she encouraged the girls:

“When you stay open—to learning, to kindness, to challenges, to new experiences, and to grace—you begin to truly blossom.”

Ms. Pilch also reminded the girls that the SJB sisterhood existed long before they arrived and will continue long after they graduate. She encouraged them to “Get to know one another. Make room for one another. Celebrate each other’s successes. And when one of your sisters is having a hard day, be the person who reminds her that she doesn’t have to go through it alone.”

We are excited to welcome our newest Jeanites into a sisterhood that spans generations and look forward to all they will accomplish at SJB!

In addition to their service field trip to New York Common Pantry, the incoming SJB freshmen participating in the University Bound program went on two additional field trips!

First, the girls walked across Central Park to the American Museum of Natural History, where they explored many of the museum’s exhibits and learned about programs and internship opportunities available to SJB students through our partnership with the museum.

To end the week, the girls enjoyed a fun day on Governors Island filled with biking, food trucks, and plenty of time to connect and enjoy each other’s company!

This past Wednesday, Jeanites volunteered at New York Common Pantry, completing four hours of service during the lunch shift. The girls packed hygiene kits for the Dignity Program, created and stocked food bags, and prepared and distributed hot meals to pantry guests.

To give a sense of the impact of their time, this group of Jeanites:

Packed 350 hygiene kits, with 275 distributed
Prepared and served 270 hot meals
Assembled 60 produce bags
Organized food to be distributed to 588 households the following day

The girls worked incredibly hard and were praised by Pantry staff for their work ethic and efficiency. We are so proud of their dedication to serving others!

We thank New York Common Pantry for welcoming SJB into your wonderful space and allowing our students to be part of such an impactful mission. We look forward to continuing to partner with NYCP for more service opportunities in the future!

Jeanites are back in the building!

School isn’t back in session quite yet, but voices have filled the halls again, this time with the faces of incoming freshmen.

40 incoming freshmen are participating in the University Bound program for the next 2 weeks.

During this time, they will get to know the building, their fellow classmates, upperclassmen who are assisting with the program, and some of their teachers.

We are excited to have these friendly new faces at SJB and cannot wait for all of our girls to be back in the building!

The Class of 2026 graduated on May 29th!

We are incredibly proud of this class. One hundred percent of graduates will continue on to college, and collectively they earned more than $19 million in scholarships and grants for their four year college careers.

These Jeanites made a lasting impact on St. Jean's, and it was inspiring to hear our student speakers reflect on how their time at SJB shaped their lives and prepared them for the future.

We wish the Class of 2026 the very best as they begin this exciting new chapter!

SJB Fine Arts Night was held last night, where Jeanites shared their talents and artwork with the community.

We enjoyed performances from the choir, pianists, and solo singers, as well as the artwork displayed throughout the auditorium.

Yesterday, SJB sophomores visited Citi Field for a college exploration field trip, gaining exposure to a variety of colleges and opportunities beyond high school.
At SJB, we’re proud that 100% of graduating Jeanites are accepted to and attend college, and experiences like this help our students envision their future.

On Monday, our seniors attended the Senior Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral alongside fellow high school seniors from across the Archdiocese of New York.

Archbishop Hicks offered blessings and words of wisdom to the Class of 2026 as they reflect on their growth in faith throughout high school.

250 meal bags made. 250 neighbors served. 🥪

This past Wednesday, our entire senior class came together with board members, parishioners, and community volunteers for a sandwich-making event in collaboration with New York Common Pantry

Each bag included a sandwich, juice, a snack, and fruit, and was decorated by our students with uplifting messages. We were also grateful to hear from two representatives about the important work they do to fight hunger in our city.

It was a meaningful day of service and community, and we look forward to hosting more events like this. We’d love for you to join us next time! 💙
