We are pleased to welcome Roy Zektzer on his return to Israel as a Zuckerman Faculty Scholar and Assistant Professor at Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Engineering.

As Principal Investigator of the Hybrid Quantum Atom–Photon Chip Lab, Dr. Zektzer and his research team are bridging the worlds of light and matter to enable next-generation quantum technologies. The lab is jointly funded by the Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program, Israel’s Council for Higher Education, and Bar-Ilan University. We wish Roy and all our scholars much success in their next academic chapter.

The World Laureates Summit 2026 in Dubai convened more than 150 of the world’s most distinguished scientists, among them Nobel laureates and internationally recognized researchers. Among them were our own Zuckerman Faculty Scholars, Yoav Shechtman, (Technion-Israel Institute of Technology) who was part of a panel, “Six Senses and the Brain Forum;” and Itay Tirosh (Weizmann Institute of Science), who participated in the “Genetic Science Forum” panel.

תוכנית בראשית הינה תוכנית חומש חדשה אשר נתנה השנה לראשונה בתור תמריץ עבור חוקרים מצטיינים צעירים לחזור לישראל ולחזק את האקדמיה הישראלית.
המענק ניתן על בסיס רקורד של מצוינות עבר וחזון מדעי רחב עתידי.

המחקר של ד"ר דביר הריס יתמקד בהבנת פוטוסינתזת הדינופלגלטים ברמה האטומית. הלבנת שוניות האלמוגים נגרמת כתוצאה מניתוק הסימביוזה בין האלמוג לדינופלגלט, ולכן יש צורך להבין היטב את האופן שבו הדינופלגלטים מתמודדים עם תנאי סטרס.

מחקרו של ד"ר טנא מתמקד בהבנת הדינמיקה האולטרה מהירה של אלקטרונים בננו חלקיק בודד.

תוכנית המנהיגות של צוקרמן במדעי ה-STEM הציגה את מחזור החוקרים החדש לשנים 2025-2026, וביניהם ד"ר ענבל וורצל .

תוכנית המנהיגות של צוקרמן במדעי ה-STEM מקבלת חוקרים יוצאי דופן מתחומי המדעים, הטכנולוגיה, ההנדסה והמתמטיקה מארצות הברית, קנדה וישראל, במטרה להעצים מנהיגים מדעיים עתידיים ולקדם צמיחה ושיתופי פעולה מדעיים בין ישראל לארצות הברית.

בין החוקרים החדשים במחזור ד"ר ענבל וורצל, שהגיעה ממרכז הסרטן מאייר של וייל קורנל מדיסין בניו יורק, אל הפקולטה למדעי הרפואה והבריאות ע"ש גריי, כחברת סגל חדשה במחלקה לגנטיקה מולקולרית של האדם וביוכימיה.

ד"ר וורצל סיימה את עבודת הדוקטורט שלה בביולוגיה במכון ויצמן למדע, ולאחר מכן ביצעה פוסט-דוקטורט ב-Weill Cornell Medicine בהנחיית פרופ' דיוויד ליידן. במסגרת מחקרה עסקה בתפקיד ה-DNA הנמצא על גבי בועיות חוץ-תאיות (Extracellular Vesicles - EVs) בסרטן.

מחקרה מתמקד בהבנת מנגנוני התקשורת בין גידולים לבין מערכת החיסון באמצעות בועיות אלה, במטרה לאתר סמנים ביולוגיים חדשים ומטרות טיפוליות לסרטן גרורתי. במהלך הפוסט-דוקטורט זכתה ד"ר וורצל במענקי מחקר מקרן Worldwide Cancer Research ומתוכנית WCM RAP.

הצטרפותם של חוקרים מובילים כמו ד"ר וורצל מחזקת את המטרה להאיץ מחקר -STEM במוסדות המובילים בישראל ולמשוך את המוחות המבריקים ביותר להמשיך במחקרם בישראל, תוך קידום שיתוף פעולה עם קבוצות מחקר ברחבי העולם

Standing Strong with Israeli Academia. Standing with Israel

The Zuckerman Israel Institute stands shoulder to shoulder with the Weizmann Institute of Science, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Tel Aviv University in the wake of the senseless Iranian missile attacks on their campuses several weeks ago.

While we are extremely grateful that no one was killed, we are deeply pained by the wanton destruction of research labs and feel for each researcher whose life’s work was completely destroyed. Proudly, just two days after the strike in Rehovot, the prestigious European Research Council awarded twelve Advanced Grants to Israeli universities - six of which went to Weizmann Institute researchers. Weizmann secured four of the 81 grants awarded by the ERC In the life sciences category.

Together, we will work to advance academic research in Israel that will strengthen us and contribute to the betterment of the world at large.Weizmann Institute of Science
