📸 | Class of 1980 – A Legacy of Learning and Activism 🎓✨
As we wrap up another school year, let’s rewind to 1980 — a year when Walkmans were our constant companions, cassette tapes were our playlists, and the world felt both vast and intimate.
At Manhattan Country School, the Class of 1980 was immersed in a unique educational experience that blended city life with a deep connection to nature. Our Farm in the Catskills wasn’t just a retreat; it was an integral part of our curriculum, where students learned to milk cows, gather eggs, and tap maple trees — experiences that grounded us in community and sustainability.
This was a time before smartphones and social media — when communication meant passing folded notes in class, not sending texts. Friendships were built face to face, often sealed with a high five or a laugh in the courtyard or the East Meadow.
To the Class of 1980: Your legacy continues to inspire. Share your favorite memories, photos, or songs from that era.
Let’s celebrate the moments that shaped us and the values that continue to guide us.

Today we celebrate Founders’ Day at Manhattan Country School.
This treasured photo captures Gus and Marty, our beloved founders, surrounded by teachers, administrators, kitchen, and maintenance staff—gathered in what’s been remembered as a very tight space. But that closeness wasn’t accidental.
Being together was always the goal.
Gus and Marty envisioned a school built on community, equity, and shared purpose. They wouldn’t have had it any other way—and we carry that spirit forward every day.
Who do you recognize in this ? How many can you name?

🌟 Today we celebrated something truly special! 🌟
Huge congratulations again to Kai Naima Williams (MCS Class of 2012), whose beautiful picture book, The Bridges Yuri Built, was officially honored with the 2025 Living the Dream Book Award at today’s ceremony! 🏆📚💛
With stunning illustrations by Anastasia Magloire Williams, this powerful story was chosen by over 150 students across Manhattan Country School, Central Park East II, and Children’s Workshop School — celebrating themes of justice, identity, and community, in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Kai’s words and Anastasia’s art come together to build bridges and spark change — and we were so proud to honor their work today. 🙌
✨ Thank you to the students, educators, and families who made today’s celebration so meaningful. And once again — congratulations to Kai and Anastasia! ✨

🐑🧶 | Class of 2009 at the Farm
Look at these young artisans! At just 8-9 years old, they were deep in the rhythm of Fiber Arts—washing wool, carding, spinning, and weaving—learning by doing, hands-on and heart-full.
Fast forward to this week: our 8th graders are back at the , shearing sheep, making preparations for the next woolly path.
Textiles—also known as Fiber Arts—are more than just craft at MCS. They are an integral thread of our curriculum, connecting city and farm, past and present, creativity and skill.
Stay tuned as this year’s students continue the journey! 🧵✨
