NYU Immersive Audio Group

NYU Immersive Audio Group The NYU Immersive Audio Group focuses on sound recording and audio mixing techniques for 360 technology and VR.

To fully experience the 360 videos, plug your headphones (tested on chrome, gearVR and facebook app). The NYU Immersive Audio Group is motivated by a common interest in building an expertise in the use of 3D audio technology recording and processing techniques. Our projects aim to explore the recording of immersive audio/video experiences by integrating 360 video capture with different binaural recording and mixing techniques. The projects explores various kind of scenarios from static to dynamic setups, with the ultimate goal of recording a full 360° sphere of musical events in New York City. The recorded material is prepared for reproduction in Virtual Reality headsets, where the user can freely pan through the audiovisual scene and enjoy a dynamic 3D audio environment. The group also takes up the challenge of developing new VR software tools for the manipulation of sound through interactive controls within the experience. These tools are intended to aid the audio engineer in designing and mixing a VR audio scene, and also establish interaction controls between listeners and sound objects. The group involves both faculty and students from the Music Technology program at NYU Steinhardt.

TODAY at 3pm the NYU Immersive Audio Group will stream the first HoloDeck concert in 360 (+binaural audio).

The event will connect distributed musicians and dancers over a network comprising studios and a stage. Studio dancers are tracked through an OptiTrack system and their avatar streamed on to the stage performers.

This is the first event of its kind and it also serves as a huge experiment on the future of distributed connectivities over mixed reality settings
