The School of Sacred Music invites you to the Music of the Hail Mary, the second event in our series, “Liturgy After Hours.” The Hail Mary has been prayed by children and pondered by the wise; promoted by saints and commended by visions. This seemingly simple prayer contains a daunting surplus of meaning, and every generation has to learn how to pray it anew. We will explore the Hail Mary through a 9th century hymn, a 16th century motet, and a 20th century motet. Through guided attention to the text and music, we will ask, “What is it?”, “How to sing it?”, and “How to pray it?”
Presented by the School of Sacred Music’s director, Zach Watters, in collaboration with the Schola Cantorum of St. Vincent Ferrer and its director, James Wetzel.
This 30-minute event will be followed by a reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres.
