Unbelievably, has no minimum marriage age so even someone who is 0 years old could be married here in California and it wouldn’t be illegal. This is scary and shocking, and also extremely unacceptable. Organizations such as and in the way of raising the marriage age to 18 last year in CA when we got really close. Just because they had reservations about helping to protect our most vulnerable-kids- from these human rights abuses, Assemblyman Ash Kalra would not allow the Bill AB2924 to even be considered for a vote which if successful, this could have changed the law in CA, allowing the marriage age to be raised to .

Both Fraidy and Chelsea made a great argument for why child marriage is so wrong. We all have to be onboard for getting behind the movement to support a ban on child marrisge here in our own state of CA. 16 other states have banned child marriage. Why haven’t we? Let’s be the leader in this, it’s just common sense. Please write to Governor Newsom asking him to do something about this quickly! This is really an urgent matter. Thank you for your help.

There’s progress in terms of child marriage in this country. Oregon just raised the marriage age to 18 just yesterday. It’s a very hopeful sign for California where child marriage is still allowed unfortunately. Recently, Maine also raised the marriage age to 18 -just earlier this month and Washington, DC did the same very recently! This can all be attributed to the great work that Unchained At Last does. I’m so proud of the tireless work they do to help kids in this country. Let kids be kids. then marriage!
