I was featured today in an article in my local newspaper in the digital version. The article will appear on Monday in the print version.

It’s an honor to be featured in this newspaper and to be able to tell my story. Jan Goldsmith did a great job as he condensed my story down to about 650 or 750 words. Not easy to do!

He wrote of how I was born and raised in the United Kingdom and when I was shown a picture at age 24 of a boy I had to get married to, I really had no choice and no voice. I ran away when I was 18 but was tricycled into the marriage at a huge cost to myself.

He mentioned the awards I’ve received for writing my book “Forced to Marry Him”including receiving the Woman Of The Year Award from
The San Diego Youth Sikh Society and how I e been disowned by my family for writing my book.

Children should never be robbed of their childhood and forced into marriage. Right now, I live in San Diego where I’ve lived since 1998 and California still hasn’t banned child marriage. It’s getting really close though as AB 1267 is now sitting on Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk awaiting his signature after passing through legislature and being voted on various times in the past week or so without any opposition! Once he signs it, finally girls here will be protected from underage marriage which makes me extremely happy. Finally, survivors like me can rest happier when we know justice is finally being served and kids are being protected. 😊

AB 1267 the bill to end child marriage was heard today and the vote was 8-0! Every member who was there voted in favor of the bill.

There’s just one more vote on the Assembly floor needed and then it should go to Governor Gavin Newsom ‘s desk!

This really needs to happen. Kids need to be kids, not brides or grooms. Let’s protect them finally by raising the marriage age to 18. Hoping and praying! 🙏🏽

Such a privilege going to New York and telling my story and also working on storytelling with the The Moth courtesy of Unchained At Last. It’s an ongoing process. Each time my story is told, it’s going to be slightly different, slightly longer or slightly shorter. It can be a frustrating process, but we have to be patient with ourselves it’s not a perfect process. It’s one where we are always growing. It’s hard to be perfect. The goal is to tell the story to effect change. Make an impact. Hopefully, people will be moved that children can have their basic human rights taken away, their childhood ripped away from them, to know that marriage was empathized as being more important than education.

It was great seeing my fellow sisters who also told their heartbreaking stories. It’s always fantastic connecting with them. Most of us don’t have family support anymore because we broke away from the abuse and were punished. Such is life. But we are strong and we plod on. If we can help even one child to not go through what we went through, it will all be worth it. We are hoping and praying for AB 1267 to be passed into law in California where hopefully the marriage age will finally be raised to 18. I hope you all wrote to your legislators. 🙏🏽

What a wonderful literary spotlight put together for me. I recently was interviewed by them and they shared this. I quite like how they put it all together.

is a book that was written by me and is my . True story of how I was forced to marry a stranger and was put into danger. I was robbed off my future and my freedom was taken away from me. Forced marriage and child marriage continue to happen all over the world and as a survivor of this human rights abuse, I know I have a duty to spread awareness so this atrocity may hopefully stop. If I can prevent this from happening to even one more girl, I will be extremely grateful. My book was written for a reason. People need to know the truth of what so many girls have suffered due to culture and tradition. However, it’s no one’s culture to abuse

My story was aired again on Unfiltered Stories. This time I went to a studio in LA for the recording. I speak again about my forced marriage. No one should ever be forced to marry a stranger and be put into danger.

We need to do better. Let kids be kids -not brides or grooms.

Come on California! Ban child marriage! Support the bill to raise the marriage age to 18. Support AB 1267.

Please support AB 1267 which will help ban child marriagd in California. This bill will raise the marriage age to 18 in California because currently there’s no minimum age. Kids of any age can be married in California! Isn’t that shocking?

We should all be outraged, be indignant and furious! Kids should be kids, playing with their toys and with their friends. They should not be brides or grooms. There’s no need to be married before 18. No child should be married. Kids can’t even consent as they’re minors. Too young to vote, drink alcohol, smoke or take drugs, but not too young for marriage? What is that? That’s ludicrous! They can’t even get divorced until they’re 18 or escape to a shelter as no one will take a minor, neither will a divorce attorney. Yet, why are they allowed to marry? Surely, you can see something is wrong with this particular situation? Too young to divorce, but not too young to marry?! They are trapped!!!! Let’s end the trap, stop the human rights abuse. Let’s do something!

Support AB 1267 - write to your legislators, especially if you live in California. It takes less than a minute and can make a huge difference to those we should be protecting kids. No one is free until we all are free.

Proudest mum ever! My daughter”s graduation from Columbia University with her degree in doctorate of nurse practitioner is quite an accomplishment! Just goes to show what you can achieve when allowed the freedom to have education! Being someone myself who was deprived of this opportunity, it means so much to me to see the sky is the limit. Please join me in congratulating my daughter Nikita who graduated on May 19, 2026 from with a Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner!

I’m the proudest mum ever. Niki has worked hard to get where she is today. As a woman myself who was not allowed to pursue education as I was told marriage was more important, of course I never would have done the same to my daughter. The cycle of abuse has to end somewhere and it stopped with me when it happened to me. I fought back. See where you can go when allowed? The sky is the limit. Love you Niki! ❤️ Congratulations!
