Baruch College Zicklin School of Business Zicklin School of Business is a top-ranked business school in the heart of Manhattan offering undergraduate, graduate, and executive degrees.

The Zicklin School of Business is the largest collegiate school of business in the nation and the only school in the City University of New York system that offers business programs accredited by the AACSB - Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Baruch College celebrated faculty achievements, career milestones, and distinguished teaching at its annual Faculty Convocation held on September 24.

In her remarks, Linda Essig, PhD, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed new and returning faculty members, calling them “the intellectual heart and soul of the College.”

“Your contributions to our College community allow individual members to grow and excel while advancing our collective success,” she said. “As leaders in your fields of study, you open new worlds to our students while you motivate and inspire each other. Your dedication enriches the academic disciplines of this institution and drives our interdisciplinary initiatives, providing our students with a competitive edge as they embark on their own professional journeys.”

Congrats to Baruch College Zicklin School of Business Prof. Lin Peng on receiving the Presidential Excellence Award for Distinguished Scholarship. 👏

Prof. Peng was was honored alongside her distinguished colleagues - David Jones, Jennifer Whiting, and Zachary Calamari, from the Baruch College Weissman School of Arts and Sciences.

👏 Baruch College celebrated its fifth annual Alumni Changemakers Awards on September 17, honoring five graduates whose leadership, innovation, and commitment to service are making a meaningful impact across their fields and communities.

The 2026 honorees represent a range of professions, from filmmaking to healthcare and nonprofits to government agencies. Their work reflects a shared commitment to creating change—advocating for maternal health, supporting marginalized communities, advancing education, and strengthening disaster and emergency medicine.

At the ceremony, President S. David Wu noted that each honoree “lives and breathes Baruch’s values,” embodying the work ethic and grit that is so characteristic of Baruch’s alumni network of more than 185,000 worldwide.

Among the five graduates was Baruch College Zicklin School of Business alum Donald Donahue (EMBA ’89), President, World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM).

Baruch College Zicklin School of Business alumna Bettina Garibaldi (BBA, ’04) just wrapped up her role as chief marketing and communications officer for the FIFA World Cup 26™ New York New Jersey Host Committee, leading efforts in both states to promote the premier competition of the world’s most popular sport. ⚽ 🏆

She sat down for a post-World Cup interview with Zicklin News.

"There was no typical day, which was one of the things I loved most about the role. My remit covered marketing, communications, brand, content and social, fan engagement, experiential, partnerships, and reputation, so I could start the morning talking through a media issue or transportation messaging and end the day reviewing creative for a fan event or our social channels."

Baruch College ranks #6 on Forbes‘ “25 Colleges with the Highest Payoff” list, marking the third consecutive year the College has earned a place among the nation’s top institutions for return on investment.

Drawn from Forbes‘ ranking of the nation’s top 500 colleges and universities, the “Highest Payoff” list recognizes institutions that stand out for affordability and graduates’ earnings potential. The methodology uses the price-to-earnings premium developed by the nonprofit think tank Third Way, which estimates how long it takes graduates to recoup the net cost of their degree after accounting for grants and scholarships.

The College placed ahead of several institutions including Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Vanderbilt, University of Florida, and Johns Hopkins.

In highlighting Baruch’s strong performance, Forbes pointed to the College’s location in the heart of New York City, noting that students are “within reach of internships and professional opportunities in finance, media, government and other industries.”

Mert Demir, director of research as the Weissman Center For International Business, and Emmanuel Saxe Chair in Finance Terrence Martell co-authored a paper on physical climate risk that was published in Energy Economics.

"We investigate the effect of physical climate risk on the cross-section of U.S. stock returns. Using weather-related power outages as a novel proxy that captures the multifaceted nature of these risks, we show that firms headquartered in states with higher levels of aggregate physical climate risk earn higher returns. Using Google search volume index, we also document increased attention to climate change when weather events cause major power outages in a state."
