A KEY piece to being an artist!
The newest group of folks has recently started the ATC, and in re-reading the welcome packet to update it; I found the introduction page inspiring me to a whole new level! IT reminded me how much I care about this work, and what an awesome journey this can be! So here it is; for your perusal and enjoyment!
THE ART TRANSMISSION COURSE
Welcome!
Welcome to the new one month journey into your art. As you have heard this is a time and a place where you will get to distill your transmission, your message to the world, into a more potent version through your art. If you are reading this, you’ve already begun the journey, and I suspect things have already begun to occur around you and your art practice.
That will be one of the key elements of this program; that art is a practice, and like any other practice there are a few factors that affect the impact and results you can expect. In this course we will delve into some practices and tools that will help you develop personal and creative practices. These will help your voice as an artist to resound more potently and clearly in the world.
So the first thing to know is this simple dynamic; we are energetic beings that have the opportunity to connect, feel, and transmit emotion. Anything that gets in the way of feeling, or helps us feel more; will also affect and/or help your art. So let’s figure out how we can help your ability to add potent emotion to your projects. If you are avoiding something in your life, it will be harder to pinpoint feelings in general, and especially when creating. It will be harder to feel the emotions of a song. It will be harder to move/dance in such a way that an audience will be moved by your performance. As an actor or performer; accessing the deeper and more subtle emotions will be more difficult and so harder for your audience to receive. As a poet, the feeling of words will be more elusive and harder to find, or even transmit through when it’s time to read them.
How do we access/harness these varied emotions then? Practice. We practice penetrating our own beliefs, resentments, and resistances that block us, in a variety of ways and with a variety of methods. There are many ways out there to do it, and many organizations and groups have them. It’s the nature of being human that we get stuck in those ways and need help to fully show up in the world. Up to now this has been an exclusive path of learning. It's often been limited to mystery schools, or open to an elite few. Most of us, as artists, stumble onto ways of better expression, or are born to an incredibly intense need to shout through our work, and driven almost to the brink of madness expressing it. Practices are the place we can now more purposefully engage that deeper part of us, and ease our way to those places. Deep into those sources of emotion and expression.
So welcome! Welcome to a conscious delving into emotion, and transmission, that will no doubt be fun, agonizing and more than anything; expressive!

This article is a very important reason why I teach this class… so every artist has the tools to navigate all the difficult emotions that come up when we as artists take on the journey of creating art into the world.
'Lovecraft Country' Sent Michael K. Williams to the Darkest Place of His Career You've seen him in 'The Wire' and 'When They See Us.' But Michael K. Williams' most harrowing role has just been surviving as Michael K. Williams.
