What is sweeter than celebrating all their hard work and success!?? Last week we decorated and dip-dyed our state test t-shirts, had a visit from an ice cream truck, and a school wide pep rally πŸ₯³πŸ¦

Our kiddos truly do shine like diamonds 🀩🀩🀩

Our 6th and 7th grade jazz band had the opportunity to perform at today and they did such an amazing job!! Most of them have only been playing their instruments since September and they have worked so hard individually and together to prepare for their first performance 🎺🎷🎹πŸ₯πŸŽΈ

Thank you to for being such an incredible organization and partner - we have loved seeing our kiddos become jazz musicians under your instruction! πŸ™πŸ’™

πŸš¨β€ΌοΈπŸ—£οΈWork in Progress: SchoolπŸ—£οΈβ€ΌοΈπŸš¨

To say this has been a work in progress, is an UNDERSTATEMENT. We have been working for 8+ years to make the dream of having a permanent home for Brooklyn RISE in Sunset Park a reality for our students and families. πŸ™πŸ’™

After COUNTLESS site visits and meetings with real estate developers, three failed attempts at long term leases, a failed zone change application, rejected CSD relocation requests, two separate temporary school locations, relocating our school 4.5 miles north and still keeping over 80% of our families which required going from 1 school bus to 7, we are BEYOND ecstatic to officially announce that GROUND HAS BROKEN on our forever home school construction site! πŸ₯³πŸ“£πŸ™Œ

It would have been so much easier to give up and just accept the failure and rejection we faced along the way, but just like we teach our students at RISE, it is absolutely essential to persevere through challenges and have relentless determination to achieve your goals. We promised our families that we would build our students a beautiful school and that we would return to Sunset Park and this is HUGE step towards honoring that promise πŸ₯Ή

This highlights some of the ways Black History Month has been celebrated across Brooklyn RISE this past month! We had morning meetings, read alouds, community circles, projects, bulletin boards and writing pieces dedicated to learning about and celebrating Black history, culture, and identity πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’š

With all that is going on in the world today, understanding the importance of fighting for equity and justice is critically important, and so we believe Black history should be studied and celebrated throughout the school year, but we also appreciate the dedicated opportunity to really focus our attention as a school community on all the incredible and important contributions, past, present, and future of the Black community! πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ«πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ”§πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ”¬πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸš€

We also celebrated and supported black owned businesses across the month including and two of our very own staff members who run AMAZING small businesses and πŸ™πŸΏπŸ™πŸΎπŸ™πŸ½
